Double sided tape for spoilers?

So I bought a new spoiler for my car. Uninstalled the old, washed and applied this

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Loctite-Po...-Tape/20470694

I used one entire roll (which loctite says holds 100lbs), the problem is the spoiler doesn't sit flush everywhere, so there are a few points where the tape isn't holding. But i'd day 80% of the spoiler is flush with the trunk. So my question, my spoiler was "supposed" to come with 3M tape. It didn't, so I went to walmart and bought this..

I'm scared to death it's gonna fly off on the highway, has anyone used this? I currently have it garaged and just letting it bond..

Any opinions would be great!

pretty much any outdoor mounting tape is going to do what you need. the key is making sure the surface you're sticking it to is really really clean. A wipedown with some wax and grease remover or some iso alcohol will do the trick.

Honestly I'd go with 3M just to be safe.

I just finished mine today, and the 3m tape wouldn't hold the ends and there was a gap on each underside visible when opening the trunk. Overall also had a "budge" when pressed. I redid the tape and added plastic+emblem adhesive on the problem areas, holding them for about 30 seconds. Biggest thing is prepping as mentioned earlier. It's on there now...

I have some issues with mine also, right side is perfect, center is perfect, but left side keeps coming up....probably will re-do the left side cause it probably isn't leveled or something....(3rd time now haha)

I'm interested in what spoilers you guys are installing? I've heard issues with stivo and five-axis spoilers. This is what I used in addition to 3m auto tape to close all the gaps on my five axis replica, maybe I'll get installed pics later:

IIRC there is a thread here somewhere where the owner came out to find his spoiler had been ripped right off by someone who really needed one badly.

Depends what kind of spoiler you have and how much contact area there is. I have run many lips on the back of my cars and they are held down by tape

it's under 200.00 it's lighter then stock. Now it's cheap, and it has it's problems. Doesn't align perfect on the back if you get it centered on the truck. No one would notice unless they sit and stare and figure it out.

UPDATE:

I will do this for the brz/frs community. Alot of people myself included have fears of wings flying off. Well, I've collected some data for everyone.

First with videos: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2vbR34jBzk"]3M VHB adhesive demonstration holds up man -- Another Geek Moment - YouTube[/ame]

There are other videos. Double sided tape also used to hold on panels on skyscrapers also.

Now with other car forums people have used double sided for spoilers/roof spoilers and had no issues
ClubLexus owners: http://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-s...-spoilers.html

BMW M3 owners: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=651870

And, for my own experience. I didn't use alcohol to clean the surface, nor did I use the 3M tape primer. The spoiler is up on the right and left side a little, air can get under it. I may need to do it again, but it's on there. I put a decent amount of force down on it and it didn't budge. I need to take it on the highway and see how the tape holds up to snow, hot days etc..
