Check the underside of the car for any signs of bottoming out. Including the underside of the bumper.

There's no way around it.

Washing on the other hand is not an issue, if you don't want it, you don't need it, but if you get the car within a day or two of delivery, they won't anyway, it's still clean enough after removing the protective covering.
Never heard such a thing about liability, maybe it's required for dealers in your area.

Yes, they will most certainly wash it. Once they remove the plastic, they always wash (or "detail") to remove the residue.

Smart thing would be to keep the plastic on, drive straight to your detailer for a color correction + opticoat, or clear bra. They'll remove it and prep it for you, whichever one you prefer.

I asked them to not take the protective covers off for delivery when my car was being shipped over seas, but they said they had to to make sure nothing got damaged during delivery. Just like you'd accept a part after shipping, always inspect it before accepting. Same thing. They don't want to foot the bill to repair it if they had nothing to do with it and the manufacturer won't pay for it otherwise.

Maybe more private dealerships worry about it than Subaru stores.

This (check for damages by taking plastic off) I did not know...

But I bought a new SRT8 Challenger about 3 years ago and when I got it home I noticed all the swirl marks...

Then on my first free oil change from dealership on the BRZ...Swirl marks...

We only need to remove the plastic if there is evidence of damage to the plastic. The rest of the car can be checked visually.

Washing, however, is a must down here, especially in the summer months (love bug season). It's actually the first thing we do, as we're checking in cars. Those suckers will erode your clear coat in a few hours of sit time. But, that's a regional issue, and one you've never experienced in Arizona.

Source, I'm a Subaru service consultant in Florida.

Thanks for clarifying, I only said it cause that's what they did to mine, I asked to keep it on they said they couldn't, and this was before it came to their lot so it was policy apparently... They didn't wash it though and it was beautiful sunny San Diego in March so it wasn't getting dirty or anything, I picked it up a couple days after it arrived and it was in a garage the whole time til they drove it out for me to inspect and drive off.

I don't imagine anyone in California can wash their car without fear of a $10,000 fine, anyways. lol

I bought it in 2013, and that was the same time I started building a gigantic 50' diameter pipe under California so I could have plenty of water for my pool in Arizona. I finished building on December 24th 2014 and started pumping on the 25th (merry Christmas!), any left over water I dumped into the ocean. Sorry guys!
