umm... you mean "have I?"
Yes, I've had the car sideways. Took traction control all the way off, had a friend in the car and we did a short run turning a large cul-de-sac into a large skid pad. Car goes sideways very well and very controllable. I'd need to find a pretty large piece of empty blacktop before I'd taking it sideways at speed but it will be a lot of fun when I do.

All. Day. Long. I plan to torture those Primacy tires down to the belts.
I'm primarily a "grip" driver, but I enjoy drifting shenanigans every so often. We have a local club that puts up drift events at New Hampshire Motor Speedway: www.driftspot.org Most places these days have legally sanctioned beginner drift events; they're a great way to have fun without the po-po stepping in to ruin the party, and without breaking anyone else's stuff besides your own. (Drifting breaks stuff. Be warned. Do it anyway.)

I know this might seem like blasphemy to most of the people on this site, but I'm not really a precision driver and I'm probably going to spend most of my time driving the FR-S being careful. I will say I wouldn't mind learning how to be a sportier driver so I might eventually practice.
But I mentioned the drift commercial to my dad and when he didn't really respond, I said I had no intention of getting the car sideways, thinking I was making him feel better. He kinda got a grin on his face and he said "I grew up in the era of rear-wheel drive cars." I stared at him for a second and then got a little nervous, so I asked if he was planning on drifting my car. He just grinned again and laughed a little but never answered. |

I already did, get it sideways, many times.

With 90 miles on the odo and my wife in the car I did. It was on accident and I barely turned into the "drift" to regain control even though it didn't even show signs of stress. My wife on the other hand...
![]() ![]() I blamed it on the fact it was 108 outside and new tires...still had to get the factory glazing off them

I actually got it sideways on the way back from Vegas today. Stopped at Barstow. My buddy and I planned to go to Taco Bell. But turns out they were still closed for another half hour. We decided to go somewhere else. That's when I noticed the entire lot was empty. We had one of those "Should I do it?" moments. Couldn't fight the urge anymore and turned off the traction control. Started a left turn and gunned it. It was just awesome. Went between the little turn islands sideways going left. Then I pulled the e-brake and slid it 180 to the right. Then I got the hell out of there. lol

I took a corner a bit too fast yesterday (~20mph for a 90* turn, on throttle), and the back stepped out some. It was unexpected, but awesome.
Then I took it on a really twisty road near my house, and ended up taking it 3 times because it was so damn fun

At first I thought that sliding the rear out would be something I'd rarely do. But after getting the rear out twice during the test drive I realized that's what this car is made to do! It's probably the main characteristic that makes this car unique. Supposedly the BRZ isn't as easy to step out though...
