Yep, here in the US it's required to be in all cars by 2018

NHTSA Announces Final Rule Requiring Rear Visibility Technology

NHTSA 09-14
Monday, March 31, 2014
Contact: Nathan Naylor, 202-366-9550, Public.Affairs@dot.gov

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) today issued a final rule requiring rear visibility technology in all new vehicles under 10,000 pounds by May 2018. This new rule enhances the safety of these vehicles by significantly reducing the risk of fatalities and serious injuries caused by backover accidents.
And the phase in schedule;

Quote:
Phase-in Schedule

To that end, today's final rule establishes a flexible phase-in schedule that affords the manufacturers the maximum amount of time permitted by the K.T. Safety Act to achieve full compliance (48 months after the publication of this rule). The phase-in schedule established by today's rule, excluding small volume and multi-stage manufacturers, is as follows:
0% of the vehicles manufactured before May 1, 2016;
10% of the vehicles manufactured on or after May 1, 2016, and before May 1, 2017;
40% of the vehicles manufactured on or after May 1, 2017, and before May 1, 2018; and
100% of the vehicles manufactured on or after May 1, 2018. [14]

So great news! She is calling me in May when the inventory is released to them. Getting excited!!

That seems pretty normal. In one of the earlier posts (and somewhere else on the forum), people have said that the car has to be moved from the factory, to the delivery truck, to the lot, test driven by dealer to see if things are working properly, and some other stuff.

When I went to the dealer to take a test drive, I saw a 2015 fresh out of the plant with 3 miles on it. However, I've seen pictures floating around with cars having only 1 mile.

Yeah, at this point in time, I just want the damn car already xD It's going to be a painful and agonizing 3 months.

Looking forward to when you get yours and throw your planned mods on it!

Off line in Japan.
Drive around test track at plant.
To holding yard.
On to truck/train.
On to ship.
Off of ship.
Into port holding yard.
Into port shop for North American bolt ons.
Back to port holding yard.
On to truck/train.
To possible regional holding yard (dependent on final destination)
On to truck.
Arrive at dealers.
May be driven at dealers but not necessarily.
Possibly transferred from one dealer to another if certain colour/features are requested

Yes, there are some with one or two miles on them but they are pretty rare. Even though several of the delivery steps don't require much (if any driving) the miles can pile up in a hurry. Don't get put off if it has 50 or more miles on it.

I know they do a first run on a diagnostic dyno for a few minutes but you think every car takes a track trip? I was thinking every 50th car or something like that they do a QC check on the track.Good point though

I can't vouch for the Subaru plant but all 3 of the Toyota plants and both the Chrysler plants I have been in have a test track that every single vehicle passes over.
They are looking for more problems than can be found by just a dyno.
Can't find anything conclusive but from aerial photos of the plant I don't see a track. Nothing saying it is right at the plant though. Now I am on a quest!
