Problem with most of the fighters that get in the ring with Mayweather is: They think they are a better boxer than he is. Know yourself and Know your enemy.

In a contest of Hitting and punching eachother they both failed?
Mayweather threw more punches and Landed at a incredible percentage. Landing 50% of the punches you threw is "failing at hitting someone"?

Here's a thought, they both take the MMA challenge. My bet, they lose either by KO or submission, either way this is why boxing is a dead sport. People pay money to see fights; not dancing, hugging and jabs which is what mainstream boxing has become.

If you could have time warped Ali, when he was in his prime, to the modern day and (weight being equal) put him in the ring with Mayweather he wouldn't have fought Mayweather's fight; he would have cornered that fool and pounded him into the mat. There's a certain picture that comes to mind...

Are you saying if Ali was @ 145 lbs or if Mayweather was at 200+?
Its hard to compare a heavy weight fighter to a welter weight in "what if" Scenarios.

Attitude, aggressiveness, skill and spirit have nothing to do with weight.

Are you saying that all the fighters that fought mayweather had NONE of those?

You are absolutely right in saying weights has nothing to do with those, BUT it does have something to do with "Pounding someone into the mat".

Such a juvenile thing to say.
"he doesn't look beat up."
Because someone doesn't have a fractured eye socket, It must mean the guy can't fight right?

Do you wear "Affliction" clothing?

Its boxing not brawling. and these guys weigh ~145 lbs.

I want to hear you back up Mayweather's claim that he is in fact better than both Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson. If you honestly believe that, go ahead and say it. If not, we're going to need you to hop off Mayweather's d***

WTF are you talking about? LMAO
I just said he was better than Pacquiao, which its VERY OBVIOUS that he is.

And if you are referring to 53driver's comment about if Ali fought Mayweather, I just want clarification on which weight class.

Because if you don't know the effect of weight on your body, then you probably shouldn't be in this discussion at all.

If you're assuming that Mayweather would be just as fast @ 200lbs you'd be wrong.

If you're assuming that Ali would have the same KO power @ 145lbs, you'd be equally wrong.

No, I was actually implicating the sport of boxing as a whole. That's why it's dead. Do you refute that?

You obviously missed the entire point I was making. There are no more Ali's, LaMotta's, Leonards, Frazier's etc. If there were, people would be watching it in droves. And my specific example of Ali was to show that someone that was "channeling" an Ali likeness would have cornered Mayweather and "pounded him into the mat".

Certainly Sun Tzu was a wise man when he counseled that it is best to defeat your adversary before the fight, but in boxing you actually have to "pound your opponent into the mat" in order to get viewers/fans.

I haven't watched boxing in over 10 years. There's a reason for that.

There have been decision wins in MMA also, and as the sports grows more and more mature, you'll see more and more decisions.

Heck the MMA now is such a weak shadow to UFC in the early 90s. (Ehem, no weight classes, No biting, No gouging, FIGHT!)
MMA is now very much mainstream, just google "Douchebag T-Shirt".

You have never watched a Triple G fight (Gennady Golovkin), an Adonis Stevenson, Provodnokov, Cotto... list goes on an on.

You can't judge boxing as a whole on ONE athletes performance.

Triple G for example, I think he has like a 90% KO rate right now.

This thread is too hipster for me. I'm too much of a "casual fan" to have an opinion. I will see my way out and continue to train to become a Pokémon master.

How old are you? I was in college in the early 90s and I remember watching UFC 1. So yes, I know MMA (UFC) is a shadow of it's former self. In fact, I don't even really watch that anymore but it certainly tends to be better than any boxing I tried to watch 10 years ago.

I'm sure there's lots of talented fighters out there. I'm sure plenty of them would whoop my butt if I got in the ring with them. However, the sport died many years ago IMO and you're not going to change that no matter what you say.

Until the profession/sport gets its act together as a whole and when a couple of individuals/fighters come along to show that boxing isn't dead, you're not going to find me spending money to watch. So yes, I believe it takes a big personality to make people want to watch and that personality also needs to DELIVER. Ali certainly could talk and deliver. On more than one occasion he pounded a fool into the mat.

I'm 35. So I was all into the UFC back in the days. Then I saw what they turned it into. Its all Joyce Gracie's fault IMO.
