Yes, it's illegal. Rules are rules, doesn't matter if its 1hp.

Anything that you do outside of what is allowed, no matter how small, is illegal. One bar, shocks, 200tw tires, catback.

You should read the rules - they spell out everything that's allowed, and anything else not mentioned isn't allowed. |

The intake tube is a simple swap with minimal effort. I would just swap it back to stock for autocross events. |

Only the people you beat will care. If it's your 6th race, there may not be many of them.

Kinda sucks if they're the only one to show up that day though doesn't it?

I dont think I have ever seen an event where I run with less than 15 to 40 novices. I have seen guys run as novices for a year or more tho trying to improve enough to move on to their appropriate class.

For SCCA here we get 3-5 at one venue and 10-15 at the other. For the day.

We had 25 novices at our event this past weekend. We started running on Saturdays because we changed venues and now we run in a church parking lot that use to be an outdoor entertainment venue so lot is fairly large.
Our turnout may drop off a bit since more people work on Saturdays than Sundays but we still had 134 entries and we got five runs for the day. |

My first club gave us 3 events to be in novice class and that was it. At the time it felt like I was being thrown into the deep end because I still had no idea what I was doing.
Now I think it was a blessing. Running against other novices that will transition to different car classes isn't going to help you develop. Run where you belong and get better quickly if you want to compete. |

For us, novices get booted after 6 events, or after winning a trophy.
We run a spring series and a fall series and give trophies at the end of each series - four events, drop your lowest score. One caveat is you're allowed to finish a series if you start in novice; so if you run four events in spring, don't win a trophy, and run one event in summer, you can still do a full fall series in novice before getting booted. As gung-ho-competitive as I am, not everyone needs to be that way, especially when you're still a novice and evaluating if this (rather expensive) hobby is worth the time and money. If it weren't for more casual folks regional events would cease to exist. Give them a happy place to play and don't put pressure on them to be the number one stunna and they'll keep coming back. |
