Frankly, as much as I have heard from my friends, the threat of getting shot is enough to deter most people, regardless of gun size. I do not own a gun, but there are plenty of small arms that will still pack enough of a punch and can be concealed.

I've had several of these instances.

The latest one was just a couple of weeks ago.

I was in the left lane on a two way highway going through some hills and there were two cars in front of me going a little above the speed limit and a trucker in the right lane a little ahead of us but with his trailer next to the front person in the left lane.

This guy comes barreling up on the truck at least 25 mph faster than us with the obvious intention of jumping in front of me. There was already barely enough room for a car between us so when I saw him coming up, I shortened the distance so that there was no where near enough room for a car.

He had to slam his brakes and slow down and get in behind me.

well the other cars got ahead of the truck and i paced the truck at the speed limit.

about a quarter of a mile later, I took off into the right lane and caught up to the next group of cars.

I was getting off two exits later so I timed it just right and got into the right lane where there was room for him to pass me with a pokie person in front of me.

He pulled up next to me and slowed down as though he was going to lock me behind the pokie car in front of me... He got there right as I was coming up on the exit, so I looked over at him and started laughing hysterically and said I was exiting moron....lol.

HE cut across two lanes of traffic and took the exit and then drove into a non lane at the light to be next to me and start yelling and then motioned the "let's go" motion, I motioned off to the side of the road and then he gets out of his car.

I motioned for him to follow me and then when I realized that he wouldn't and was going to stay there blocking traffic. I threw my car in park took out the keys and got out because I wasn't going to be stuck inside my car unable to move in case he tried to do something.

When I got out and stood up he immediately got back in his car, yelled some more obscenities and blew through the red light taking off...

I just had to laugh..

Then it occurred to me that the #1 most probable cause for this behavior was that the driver had either stolen the car or robbed a bank.

NOW whenever I see someone driving like a complete jackass I think to myslef "If that person just stole that car, he: 1 - doesnt give a crap if he destroys it AND my car and 2 - He JUST MIGHT be armed and dangerous and wouldnt hesitate killing me just to get away".

Keep that in mind and it will make you think twice before confronting someone that is "driving like a jackass".
Or maybe his wife was in the hospital in critical condition because of some accident. When my uncle had a seizure, I did the same thing.

You never know. Best not to get involved.

Doesn't that work two ways though? In the time you are reaching for the gun in the glove box he could have put 6 rounds in your head.

So if he can threaten to cut your throat, you can pull a gun on him. If no one was hurt and no property damaged, nothing will happen. Even if you were pulled over and questioned, there is no proof you did it other than his word. Bullies get really small when confronted with their own mortality. Stay strapped kiddies, you never know what's gonna happen. Maybe they will get road rage and box you in, no way to drive away. Then your only choice is to stand your ground

There's something to be said for being a truly defensive driver; expect EVERYONE else to be impatient, rude, inconsiderate pricks and you'll never be surprised by what happens next. And in my experience this mindset prevents me from getting mad when something stupid actually does occur, which inevitably will happen.

I think that seeing others do really stupid crap triggers the "Justice response" in some of us.
How many of us would stand up for a little old lady standing in the supermarket line and some jerk cuts in line in front of her? - Most of us.
I think that some of us see pricks driving recklessly or with no regard for others the same way. When I see someone darting in and out of lanes, passing on the right and wedging themselves back into the fast lane in the same light and we want to point those people out and say "wait your turn".
When some people get behind the wheel they are completely disconnected from others on a personal level and do things that we would NEVER doing when standing in a line at the supermarket or the bank.

Just the other day the road leading up to the highway entry had construction and everyone was forced into the right lane. This was about 1 block from the last exit you could take to divert before being forced to wait in line to enter the highway.
I had intended all along to take that early exit that day and I could have jumped over onto the shoulder and passed people up to get into that exit lane, but I would only need to wait another ~20 yards to do it legally.
So I see someone in my right rearview mirror had pulled onto the shoulder and was passing people on the right to do the exact thing I was politely waiting to do until I could do so without driving on the shoulder.
When I saw the car coming, I intentionally pulled half way in to the shoulder and then straightened out again to continue waiting when the jerk-off just keeps driving squeezing with about 1 inch clearance between cars and guardrails!
SO since I was going that way, I followed and actually got the chance to yell at her (yes it was a woman in a BMW) and tell her how rude that was.....
She acted like she had no idea what I was talking about.

There was a study done within the last few years that people who drive luxury brands tend to disobey traffic laws more often (speeding, cutting people off, driving in the shoulder, etc.) simply because they have a sense of entitlement from driving said brands.

If I recall correctly, the study did say BMW owners are the worst. Lol

Not sure if this makes sense to others but:
From my experience I would say that this is partially due to the fact that the BMW is really an "entry level" luxury car. You end up with people that have just started to "make it" in life and that first BMW is one of their checkpoints for success. Get somebody into a 2 or 3 series and all of a sudden they feel they feel superior because they have a BMW.
My son's buddy's whole personality changed when he got his bottom of the barrel 3 series. He now can't say one whole sentence without working in "well my Beeemer is ...". Sure they are ok but it is still just a $35K sedan and not nearly as up scale as he seems to think just because of that BMW badge.

I'll just leave this here.

This could have been exactly what might happen to me. Luckily, I saw that SUV coming...

Still think is one of the funnier (although likely staged) road rage bits out there:

This one is always good for a chuckle
