Sorry, sure its been asked a few time but don't want to go through all the thread. I have the c38, 550cc injectors, and running e85. My question is to get to 350whp what will it take. Everything else in car is stock. Have yet to dyno it.

Hmm I have 1k miles on mine now after installing it last month. I'm assuming the belt was not tensioned properly.

The owner just admitted he was not given a recommended belt tension by KW with the 90mm pulley he purchased from them directly. This makes me think KW didn't do enough (any?) track testing on their product to determine the recommended tension OR maybe KW's cogged pulley/belt design is fundamentally flawed due to the increasing number of broken belts as evidence. No play = something has to take the force when you do a hard shift. Normal belt systems are intentionally designed to momentarily slip to release the energy. With KW, the belt has to take all that load, and it can only do it so many times... Last edited by ATL BRZ; 04-27-2015 at 01:33 PM. |

I would assume the required belt tension would be the same no matter what size pulley you ran? Also if Rotrex themselves say cogged belts shouldnt be used with their blowers why do they warrant them through Kraftwerks?

I started out with using recommended measurements, frequency, etc. Now I just snug enough so that I don't get belt slap at low rpm and call it good.

I haven't seen too many cog belt designs for superchargers. I figure a 6 rib belt is sufficient for all the other accessories on the vehicle, including A/C. If the drive system were a dedicated 6 rib design, would it be able to handle the stress? All of the other systems utilize a standard serp-belt and operate just fine up to 300whp. After that, and I would probably carry an extra belt in the trunk.
I think it's strange the other KW supercharger kits use serpentine belts as well. Is there a possibility of a design revision down the road? On that would utilize a standard belt? Or even a timing-belt design that would be a little bit more available should a belt break? Anyway, of all the kits I've seen I like this one the best overall. But I do have concerns about this belt drive system. |
