Quick Q guys. Replacing all 4 tyres and heard good things about Achilles 2233's and since they are reasonably priced figured I'd give them a try.

What size tyre is "recommended" 215/45-17 ?

I have Achillies 18" and they do not grip as well as the standard 17" tyres.

On the plus side, it's possible to get the back out even with 18" wheels on

Grip going to be a crazy issue with just the front tires?

Too good to be true it seems

Hey Momo,

I currently have 215/45-17 Toyo Proxes T1 Sport tyres all round and they've been great! Problem is they are extremely hard to source...

I'm gonna be changing them soon, and will probably go for the Yokohama A Drive R1 (same size) - There's a special at the moment, they going for around R1200. Anyone have any experience with these tyres?

Some pics off my dashcam videos, and a video clip taken yesterday at the SA Biking Academy track day at Red Star Raceway.
The facilities at Red Star are superb, and the track is brilliant.
Super condition, many very tight corners, technical and IMO very safe.
Hard work and exhausting, but superior fun

The second last photo - if you were wondering, I didn't hit that cone...

I thought I'd share this video clip with anyone who's interested. Not because I was chasing a beautiful buttercup yellow Porsche GT3 and managing to hold him in the twisties (obviously not on the straights), but because everyone says the Toyota 86 = oversteer, oversteer, oversteer.

Well, I rarely have oversteer on track, and here's an example (at about 0:20) of understeer and the front breaking away while under full power, and I had to lift to create lift-off oversteer to get the tail to come around. The next left-hander is almost identical and that's how the previous corner should have been.

And if you look at the obscenely sharp right-hander at 0:45, that's at full power in 2nd in an SC 86 without oversteer

BTW, you'll only hear tyres in left corners because I keep my window open and the passenger window shut.

He makes it look so easy...
But at least I now know what I must aim for which is 9 secs away from where I am.
I'll be back.

And big congrats to @JouMaSeHoes who did some amazing laptimes for an NA car.

Nope, my understeer moment was at about 0.56 on that video.

Here's another short clip which might be interesting...

Up front, you'll see 2 of the 3 rolling roadblocks which were a serious pain-in-the-butt.

It was primarily a motorcycles day, and those 3 instructors were introducing newbie motorcyclists to the track. They obviously couldn't go out in any of the motorbike sessions, so they clogged up the cars session. About every third lap, your lap time would be spoilt be having to negotiate the rolling roadblock.

That was one of four reasons that I'll never support an SA Biking Academy event again. The other three reasons are that their price is too high, they promised proper timing which didn't materialise, and those bloody motorcycles are so loud that you can't have a conversation in the pits. Red Star is brilliant, just without the bikes.

Fortunately, Red Star is having more and more car events, and they've started open track days for cars https://www.facebook.com/RSR.Delmas/...type=1&theater

Anyway, I wanted to show you how amazing our car's handling is. At about 0.29 in the video, I overcooked it a bit coming into the sharp right-hander. I normally trail-brake into that corner, shift to 2nd without rev-matching, so popping the clutch confuses the ABS, drags the rear wheels for an instant and swings the tail around very nicely. But it went a bit pear-shaped - I overbraked and locked up the right front, the ABS kicked in, and I was staring at the grass. I'm not quite sure how I didn't go off, but these amazing cars make it so easy
