is the ECU a Subaru or Toyota unit?

Title pretty much says it all. Much thanks to anyone who has the answer.

subaru.

no you cannot just swap out an ecu, they are a coded set ECU Imobiliser and Dash Cluster plus FOB keys.

you either swap all components in set or obtain new ecu then get toyota/subaru to re-code the security set.

Well. ECU is from Denso, which was part of Toyota at one point. Again, they can probably just label the ECU subaru cause it is built in Subaru plant. Just like any other stamping on drivetrain parts in a Toyota GT86. Everything is labeled Subaru.

Edit: Addition to what I said. All imobilizer and alarms are very similar to any toyota..the locking beeping sound is the same as the camry, corolla, and prius.

Im pretty sure Subaru and Toyota worked with Denso with the control of the whole vehicle.

So recap. Its actually really hard to tell.

It's Toyota hardware with software programmed for/by Subaru. Toyota Techstream logs into it seamlessly. The real nutcracker though is the automatic transmission control unit. I haven't seen any posts about anyone cracking into it yet.

...and Tundra. My boss and I can't tell which car is beeping if he hits his '07 Tundra button at the same time I hit my FRS one. It actually might be the same as my wife's IS250..I'll have to give that a listen again.

As said, Toyota's Techstream works without fail.

Oddly enough though, it is wired like a Subaru. At least the door lock circuit is (WRT to locking the doors with a turbo timer running).

I'm inclined to say Subaru, it's similar to the electronics in the 2015 WRX ECU, but that doesn't say too much since Denso probably makes that too and they have more of a say in how the low level electronics work as long as it works the way Subaru/Toyota wants it to.

D4S system is Toyota's, so I'm inclined to say it's purely Toyota for this...

The ECU is very similar hardware denso (similar microprocessor) and runs similar software (with added bits for DI/PI to the Subaru Forester, XV ECU, this was why the romraider/tactrix guys were able to "crack" it so quickly.

Toyota TechStream was able to change the default recirculation on my Monogram HVAC from on to off (fresh air).

tl;dr
It's a Denso unit. Toyota and Subaru both use Denso units. So its a moot point trying to label it as a Toyota or Subaru.
