For Those Whining About Fuel Economy

Many here complain about fuel economy and we would all like to tap the rev limiter on every shift and get 50 MPG. But as the old saying goes, you have to give up something to get something.

Not the most fun or the best economy I have ever gotten from a tank but shifting when the arrow comes on @ 2K and following the speed limits around my area can get some pretty good #'s. The math says 38.02 MPG.

I think the real crime here is that you're paying only $2.85/gal for premium.

Wow, that's amazing. Best I have done is 29. I'm not sure I could shift at 2000 for a whole tank to test it myself. Kind of an eye opener actually.

Thanks. I just see so many complaints about fuel mileage and most of them can be attributed to the driver not being patient enough to row through all 6 gears between 0 and 35 MPH and allowing several hundred yards (meters) to do it. I will tell you that I hammer every on and off ramp to remind me that there are many smiles per gallon too.

I live in Harrisburg and drive a mix of city and highway, tend to average 25-27 mpg which I'm completely ok with. I've seen just over 40 mpg with freeway driving at 55-60 mph but I just dont have the desire to drive like that for an entire tank. Mixed driving while being stupid careful nets about ~33.

None of this matters though. The important thing is when I need the gas to last I can make it last and when I don't care I can hammer up and down a curvy mountain road and I still get ~18 mpg and jolt down the freeway at 110 and get ~22. That's really what impresses me about this car. I drove a Suzuki SX4 Sportback before this and it didn't get any better fuel economy.

I do not know of any "Retards" (your word not mine) that bought this car for fuel economy.
