Bird poop on my FR-S. "Dual zone" in a car this small is still funny.

I feel bad for the people in this thread who actually have something they "hate" about the car. I don't think I've ever read any other dedicated forum for something where so many of the people who own it dislike it so much.

The problem is the the enjoyment delivery from the car skews the results. Don't get me wrong, the car is downright brilliant given the right set of circumstances. I was playing around on the Lime Rock Car Control course this weekend and the little Scion that could was able to keep up with cars that by all rights should have left it in the dust, even when sliding around corners. I would absolutely buy it again in a heartbeat. If the car delivered like that day in and day out, I think the only thing you'd hear in this forum would be crickets. (Actual ones, not the fuel pump. )

That said, the window of opportunity to put that kind of ear to ear grin on your face is generally so limited for a daily driver vs the amount of time you have to put up with little annoyances makes a mountain out of a mole hill.

If your little sister daily runs around pointing at you yelling 'I'm not touching you.' that one time you sock her is so satisfying... but it may be a while before you can do that again.

Agrrrreed. Same weird dip stick arrangement as our previous car ..... it bends to be almost horizontal where it gets down in the oil. This means that when you pull it out you get vastly different levels on either side. Not only that, the metal is so smooth it holds such a thin coating of oil that you can hardly see it. I have roughened both sides which helps. (Holes would be better) . NOT ONLY THAT but I can't see how you can avoid the possibility of oil splashing up past the true level when you you push it all the way in unless you ease it in slowly/carefully once the o-ring enters the tube.

Am I missing something?

It doesn't surprise me really. I've never owned a car there wasn't one or two things I really didn't like and made me say "what were they thinking!".

Car design and computer programming have that in common. At some point you have to "ship". When you do, you already have a list of things you know should have been done that will be in version 1.1.

And if they "fixed" everything that people say they hate on this thread then it would just be a new list of things to complain about.
I can see it now:
I hate that it costs $40K
I hate how heavy it is.
I hate that I can't hear the engine.
I hate the colour choices.
I hate the controls on the radio.
I hate the tires they are too sticky.
I hate fact it is so common.
I hate that it looks like every other car out there.

Nope. Just an inaccurate gauge, the fuel level sensor reads below a certain voltage/fuel level and lights up. Basically, you could be running low enough, the fuel sloshes around in the tank when you go over a bump or around a corner, and it triggers the low fuel level. Basing it off of a mpg calculation is just dumb.

There are DIY threads that walk you through doing LED swaps. Or find a friend who knows their shit and have them do it (what I did, the all red looks wonderful). I watched him work (thankfully he didnt mind me hovering over his shoulder), and its not horribly difficult to do.

If anything, this car has the least amount of quirks compared to every other car I've owned. When I'm driving there is very little about the car that irritates me. Everything is exactly where I want it to be. You can tell the designers put a lot of effort into making a true driver's car. All I need is an OEM armrest and I will be good.

Too many people expect this car to be like a Genesis Coupe or Mustang or GTI, when it's more like an S2000 or Elise. It's low, light, stiff, and un-refined. You hear and feel a lot of *things* with this car - road noise, crickets, etc. But that's what allows feedback to come through the chassis. Like the Elise and S2000, these cars also require you to wind out the tach and downshift (multiple) gears to make any power. But that's part of the fun of driving these cars hard.

The Twins realistically should have sold in numbers similar to the S2000, but they sold a lot more than that. I think they were marketed as being a bit more mainstream than they really are, hence complaints from owners expecting more refinement or torque. You don't find Jeep wrangler owners complaining about rattles or Lotus owners complaining about road noise. Buyers of those cars know what to expect. But an edgy sports car from Scion/Subaru probably caught some buyers off guard.

I think this thread is great in that it helps potential buyers get a better sense of what to expect.

I'm planning on doing this. It just bugs me that they would mix and match colours like this. It was a surprise to me until I drove the car off the lot and I instantly knew how disgusting it looked. My passenger often remind me of the dissimilarity of colours which bugs me even more.

I've gone and ordered those LED's. Big rip of with shipping regardless how many LED's you buy. I'm sure the 20$ in shipping only comes in an envelope.
