That's a fairly loud ticking - have you tried to isolate the location using an engine stethoscope or listening using a long screwdriver?

I have the same issue as op. I have about 33k miles on my car. Is it going to be covered under warranty? I have no engine mods except a drop in filter and a intake tube. But will probably put it back to stock if I do take it in...

Warranty is up to 5 years/60k miles for engine.

Just take it in.

Has anyone really heard back from a dealer about this, or know anything definitive about the cause? Is it even a mechanical problem, or is this really just a noise (like the fuel injectors) that we are all complaining about but is of no significance. Low&Slow's video does not sound like my ticking, and sounds much more like a mechanical problem.

Codes suggest VVT system abnormality, sounds like a bearing issue though.

Ahh..the old oil starvation again, but usually its #4. Are they going to replace the engine or try to blame you?

Yes, I can accept to a certain degree engine issues, especially in a new design and in a great car like the BRZ, but not when the dealers often try to blame the drivers. Subaru needs to acknowledge the issue and take care of their owners!
I second this. Not to be a ****... But I've had two 350zs one being an 03 coupe and 07 roadster. Never had a single damn issue and those cars were meant to take beatings.. Our frs is a beautiful car but I'm seriously considering selling her due to something always being wrong with these cars!!
