edit: actually there were two s2000's and one was faster than the 86 faster lap wise.
Not sure how relevant it is, but the s2000 with the faster lap did not finish the race.

so what are the size of the wheels/tires on these 86's?

Also I am not understanding this. Who's the competition against 86 in the class? I'm lookin at the times, and 86 doesn't appear to have the fastest time, but they won the race.
I assume it is more relevant to look at V3 class, as most of us would tune our cars to be like that.

The results are great in the sense it shows the durability of the 86s.

However, for racing pedigree as a company, Toyota really has to challenge in the SP9 GT3 class but currently there is no competitive platform within its range of products to do so.

In the SP3 class, the GT86 is finished ahead of civic type R, s2000, Bmw E90 3 Serie 320si .... this is just unbelievable achievement. Just few months ago during VLN race, GT86 finished behind S2000 & Civic Type R !

Thumbs up

I'm kinda proud to see a Swiss team beeing first in it's category.
Switzerland doesn't even have a race track for these guys to go out and test.
So good job!

This is an endurance race, so total laps covered is more important than individual lap times.

Though I'm not sure how the V3 GT86 completed the race in under 24 hours. They must have waved the checker since it was so close to the finish at the 24 hour mark that it was best to finish the field rather than send the whole V3 field around for another 11 minutes lap.

24hr Endurance racing is a true test of a car since it has to run at 90%-100% for a whole day. Not only does it have to make it the distance without breaking, but it has to do so without needing excessive stops for fuel, tires, or brakes. Coming out on top and posting some of the fastest lap times is very impressive for a brand new undeveloped chassis.

Gazoo had only a few months to prep and test the cars. And The 'ring is pretty much a power track, but the GT86 isn't very powerful yet pulled off some fast times and won against cars with YEARS of development behind them. With a year of development on the GT86, it'll dominate. So I think ADAC will put restrictions on the chassis or they risk seeing a field of GT-86s next year.

Although, looking again, they may let things be since it seems that the GT-86 tripped up the Clios and Astras which appear to be dominating. They may let the GT86 be if it's mixing up the front row. (But with European auto sports there's always politics involved. So anything can happen.)

That's a good point! Switzerland is sorta anti-racing after that fiery Le Mans crash in 1955...

@Draco-REX: You got the point. Driving 24 hours at the Nordschleife is not all about fast lap times, there are many factors:
There are different weather conditions, driving by day and night, fuel consumption, different drivers in one team, skills on this track, save overtaking and - most important - reliability!
The GT86 were not the fastest but they did very well, especially they hat no technical problems at all (BTW, like the Lexus LFA).

But in one point i have to disagree:

Unfortunately this will never happen - not because the Hachiroko isn't good enough but because it is no german car

Incredible result for Gazoo and Toyota Swiss Racing, especially the LFA on P15 is amazing.

If anything I'd see that as more reason why they'd penalize the chassis. But then, they seem ok with a french car almost taking the top 5 spots in SP3.

I think this chassis is going to be very popular in the circuit crowd. And it won't surprise me if, in a few years when the used market picks up, a spec 86 series gets started.

I think there is a misunderstanding. Sorry for my bad English, my fault.
I agree with you, this chassis is going to be popular and I am sure that soon in Japan there will be a 86 Cup race or something like that.
What I wanted to say is at the 24 hours race at Nordschleife are mostly German teams and drivers active, roundabout 80% I would say. And the Germans love their own - German - cars. So the possibility of using the GT86 from one of the many German teams is pretty low - even if it is the better/best platform.

How would they penalize the chassis? It was not the chassis alone.
Were they running the OEM shocks or were they using tuner monotubes.?

The 86 is sucessful because they are able to mount the boxer engine low and back in the chassis for a low COG and a 52:48 weight bias.
