I'm heading to gingerman for GRIDLIFE at the end of May. Trailering the car for that one

But I was also gonna say - I do have a buddy selling his swp BRZ for $22k. 13k miles. He works at a dealership and has car a.d.d. lol. I'll see if I can find the thread.

Ohhh gridlife. I've been hearing a lot about that. My gfs friend in IL wants us to cruise out with him. That'd be fun.

Saw that one. He's got an offer on it currently. If it's still there in 2 weeks I'll make an offer. It'd be between that one and one I found in SD as of now. Not the biggest fan of those wheels. If he'd knock some off and keep them that'd be great. Already has oft too. That'd be a plus.

So out of curiosity, why did multiple guys in here opt for SC over turbo?

Are you guys running after coolers for extended track purposes?

I went s/c for a few reasons. Mainly it's cheaper, requires fewer supporting mods, and it looks and drives like stock. With e85 and exhaust people are getting 300whp which is plenty for me. It just seemed like the most cost effective and reliable way to get rid of the anchor that came installed from the dealer. I'm not running an intercooler or oil cooler. On e85 my oil temps are 90-95 C normal driving and 95-105 driving aggressively. Have not seen oil temps after tracking but guessing they would be a lot higher

Not me Honestly though, I think people are generally scared of turbos vs superchargers, especially for extended track use due to heat and reliability issues. Just a guess...

That's kind of the worry I would also imagine people have.

On your folks' kit and fbm, I would think it would be plenty conservative enough to expect more than reasonable reliability.

And can't speak for the SC vs turbo bang/buck as I haven't looked into the SC option at all. But what you said Poorsche, sounds like it's at least worth looking into.

I've never had a turbo car and it's kind of a nagging item on the bucket list. A conservative 300whp....

For me - It was a few different reasons.

1. I want a predictable, linear powerband. For RWD, I don't want the rear wheels to hit a huge spike in power while i'm on the track. S/C seemed to be a good option. If i had an AWD vehicle or something with less of a threat to me losing the rear end, i'd have no problem with Turbo.

2. Ease of install and operation. No boost controllers, fancy exhaust piping, excess heat. Bolt on, tune and go.

I don't necessarily think price was a motivation point for me - to get my S/C install to where i want it in terms of performance and reliability, it wasn't super cheap. Beyond the $5k price tag for the Vortech Kit, I bought:

Perrin Oil Cooler ($600ish)
Mishimoto Radiator ($300)
Radium Dual Catch Can setup ($400)
Smaller pulley and gates belt - 12psi ~300whp on 92 ($150)

So that tacks on another $1500 or so, and i'm not quite done - i'd like to do a full gauge setup this year (but that's the beauty - i really don't HAVE to like if you have a turbo)

All that being said, will I sit here and say a S/C is better than a turbo? Nope - just my preference depending on what i want my car to do and what i like. And with the Vortech Kit, i still get that wicked BOV sound My Fav!

That's a good deal of food for thought. Thank you for that. Well put

I have a good deal of research to get on

I should probably focus on getting the car first anyways

Anyone in the twincities metro, preferrably north metro, have the techstream software and cable. Would you be willing to meet up and give me a hand for a few min? I can pay in beer if needed ;-)

I need to try and calibrate the steering angle sensor.
TIA

If I went FI I would consider 2 options. AVO turbo kit which is well designed and conservative. I like the low placement of the turbo and the fact you can keep your stock airbox or intake. That paired with my flex fuel kit should make a reliable 300-350whp.

My second choice would be to go full retard with a fully built and blueprinted block and turbo kit from Crawford performance.

For what reason would you consider AVO over map or fbm besides the specific placement?

I like the oem look of it and visconti recommends it. He tuned my car and has been great to work with.
