In February they did. That is just a monthly figure not a year to date. I am actually shocked at the number of "sporty" cars that sold in the middle of winter.

So this past weekend I went to two different Scion dealers (one while I serviced my car, and another because I was curious).

Couple things I noticed:
A. Both dealers had plenty of FR-S stock sitting on the lot.
B. I did not see a single FR-S stickered for less than $28.5k and I saw 2 release series both stickered for over $33k.

I know the base price for these things is still close to $25k but at lest in my area you cant get one for that price anymore.

If this pattern is typical (I dont know) I can understand why sales are going down.
No way in hell I would want to pay over $26k for an FR-S ($28k for a release series).

I would actually look at that in the opposite light. If the dealers feel they can mark up that much they must be selling them.

Per Scion's site the '15 base price is $25,670 for MT and $26,770 for AT. Sounds like there are some add-ons or crap-fees on the ones you are looking at locally. If I had to guess, I would say that they added paint protection (3M film) and maybe an upgraded radio to them.

If you really want one for the base price you should be able to order one though, you would just have to wait.

They want nothing to do with you if you're not interested in buying what's on the lot, they're a Toyota dealer, not a Porsche dealer. I went through dozens of dealerships and nobody was willing to sell me the car I wanted, they all 'needed' leather seats and navigation and clear bra and trunk mats and upgraded headunits.

I even put down a deposit, explicitly saying no upgrades, bone stock, they agreed. Lo and behold it comes in several hundred dollars more expensive and when I ask why they added the headunit and wheel locks. So pissed off, got my deposit back will never set foot on that dealership lot again, nearly didn't buy the car at all. Those four weeks wasted cost me $800 as by the time I found someone willing to sell me what I wanted the price increased by $300 and the student discount decreased by $500.

Sorry, I go on this tirade about once every two or three months, fuck dealerships, let them all burn. No reason why buying a car should be any more complicated than buying a phone or television. Hell you can custom order a phone and have it on your doorstep within two weeks exactly the way you want it, different backing, different wallpaper, custom startup message, with no bullshit.

I have no love lost for dealers either, but you should be able to order the car you want, I've done it probably a half-dozen times over 30 years from various manufacturers.

You might want to try a car buying service.

I am glad someone remembers the original sales intent of these vehicles. They are made at an almost 3:1 ratio of Toyota to Subaru models. Maybe even more now. What can be expected?

I had almost to total opposite experience since mine already had everything done to it that I wanted I said I want "that one but a better price". They tried hard to push me towards a bone stock one but since it was the only MT Lava they had I said I was walking. So I ended up with about $4K of extras for under $1K.

You may have had success ordering cars but I had one dealership actually do it, probably talked to ~20-30 dealerships that either blew me off or flat out refused to get me the car I wanted.

I don't think I was difficult, I didn't require a specific color or anything, I didn't bitch about a discount I was perfectly happy to pay MSRP for a bone stock car with no add ons.

Bleh, I'm honestly really hoping I never have to buy a new car again. I am a millennial who does not want to buy a new car and it is solely due to the dealership experience.

Sorry, it sounds like your anecdote completely proves my point that the Toyota dealerships are less interested in selling you the car you want and more interested in moving the product on their lot. Sure our locations favored different methods of selling (low effort no add ons move inventory vs. high effort lots of add-ons willing to wait out the customer) but ultimately the customer service should have been better.

Sounds like we should have swapped locations to buy cars

No, I understand, and I also understand why they DON'T want to "let" you order one given they get no revenue from it until it is delivered, if they can't find one for you, and there is no guarantee the buyer will purchase the special order (you can always walk away, losing your deposit).

With the FR-S in the first year a lot of folks were able to order them because they didn't exist on the floor yet. Heck, technically mine was ordered and I got it bone stock because there were NO options available at the time, being one of the First 86.

Yes I do agree though that they try to sell what they want but that is not just Toyota but most dealers.
