I think it's time to run for the hills, dig in and prepare for the porkalypse.

@Tcoat,

Do any tourists from the U.S. ever say "oh ya B"? Or "oh ya C"? If no one has, I will be the first.

I love when tourists from the US come to Canada and use their cute little accents

I'm not so sure what professions are solid bets in America, but from what I see on TV; lawyers, doctors and cops are keeping busy.
We have been looking for a Manufacturing Engineer for our one plant for 7 months now! Every applicant we have given an offer too has come back and said "nope, sorry, my current employer beat your offer". This tells me they were not truly interested in the first place and were just using us to play the game. The other thing that we run into is that most of the other engineers we spoke with want to be in product development or some other desk only type of position and when they find out they would have some hands on work they just walk away.
Like anywhere there are no "solid bet" professions here but the pool of qualified electricians and millwrights seems to shrink even more every year. Nobody seems to want to go down that road anymore even though (here at least) they tend to make about 20% more than the people that are supervising them!

Most of the guys from the States that I work with tend to be from the Michigan/Ohio/Great Lakes area and their accent is barely distinguishable from ours. Once in a while though we get somebody from the south come up and then there is a lot of "pardon me what did you say?" (from both sides)that occurs.

If two opposite bipolar people get close to each other do they get stuck together?

Uhhhhhh, hey Tcoat! No lie, just yesterday I was talking to guys in the machine shop saying I missed being able to do hands on work alongside my engineering behind a desk. So if you're still looking for applicants, let me know.

...Also, the amount of time you see me spending on the forum does not reflect on my work ethic.

We are actually! Not sure if you could get a visa though since the govmnt seems to think there are engineers to be had everywhere. It is going to be a very cool job when we get our new plant up and running as it is about as high tech as you can get in assembly work.

Ya, I would hate to have to reprimand you for spending too much time on the internet. The irony of that would keep me awake at night.
I look at it this way; if you are good enough at your job to get all your work done and still have time on your hands I don't give a damn what you do with it.

Visa/shmisa I'll just marry a Canadian and move up! There's always a way!... What kind of plant are you guys running? I currently design heavy machinery for two plants, one local in OR and the other in CA. Their tech level is definitely not as advanced as I would like, but it's still fun regardless.

Hey, I'd like to think I don't waste company money, the brain can only run so long without diversion, and I'd like the think a car forum is better time spent than other parts of the internet hah. Been here two years now and have personally created over 5,000 parts/assemblies/drawing files, so I'd say my productivity is pretty damn high. haha

But seriously though, if you don't find a local, hit me up because I always enjoy a new challenge. Plus I really want to try this Poutine all my Canadian friends are talking about.

As long as there is no pre-nup I'll bite the bullet.
