the whole "crickets" thing is hugely beyond belief blown out of proportion.

Its like going to the dealer because your car makes an exhaust noise when the car is on. But stops when you turn the car off.
Swapping the exhaust with the same exhaust wont make anything different. Its the sound the exhaust makes.

These cars can/will make "cricket" sounds. Thats just how it is. Trying to "fix" it is chasing your tail. And repeditively going to the dealer just increases the chances of them screwing up your car/scratching it/joy riding etc.

Not worth it, imo.

Your post is really food for though, have you guys heard direct injection on some other cars like VW, BMW, and Hyundai? They are loud , go to their respective forums and you'll see their owners aren't as upset and drone about the noise all day like here (especially as ours goes away when you hit the throttle).

The comment about increasing the likelihood of screwing up the car is valid. How about them treating your car like a rental the minute you're gone?

I agree, but it doesn't help when the dealerships are replacing fuel pumps. It gives the impression of faulty pumps to begin with .... even though they may be fine, but just noisy.

It was started in 2013...and revised once...so those that got it done right away may need to go back in for another fuel pump installation under warranty.
Not a "recall" was a service bulletin and the last revision was 4 and still doesn't fix a thing.

It seems like a group mentality/thought thing...a few of us started to mention the "issue" and then everyone was like, "hey! Me too! How can we fix this?".

Then there are rumors(some true, I'm sure-since I've seen a few invoices etc) about dealers swapping parts for customers etc and the problem temporarily going away.

Then, you have the group of "Im gonna start putting ______ in my gas" to make the problem go away. Two stroke oil, snake oil, mixing fuels, unicorn pee etc.

Everything and everyone is just fueling the problem(haha, see what I did there) by coming up with questionable "fixes", temporary solutions and completely unverified testing (I filled up the tank on a full moon, and the crickets stopped...so try and fill up your tank on full moons to prevent crickets).

I would truly benefit the community here(and new owners) to not see so much useless spam/issues about a problem that isnt a problem.
CRICKETS.

But, I doubt that will happen, but all I can try and do is spread my useless opinion occasionally.

I don't know about the stock system but the Bespoke sound system is pretty good. I never listen to the radio but when I tested out the sound system and heard HD Radio, it blew my mind a little bit.

In fact a majority of the parts are Subaru.

I've owned several Toyotas and everyone has been rock solid. This is my first product sold by Toyota to have so many small issues. There has not been anything major yet but there are far more little things with this car than any of my previous Toyotas.
Best way to know if it's built by Subaru is if it burns obscene amounts of oil.

If you get it some times yes some times no. If you really strain you just might hear it or it may be so loud that it will drive you nuts.
Seems to be incredibly variable and effects different people at different levels.
For me (the whole 3 days I had them) I could only hear it if I turned the radio off and opened the windows. The only reason I even knew they had come to visit was I heard them when going through a drive through. My reaction was just sort of "meh not so bad".
Certainly not the horrid racket I was expecting from some people's reaction.

I'll admit, after living with mine for a few years, i can't wait to pay it off enough to trade it in for something roomier. I love sports cars, but up until I actually bought and had to live with one as a daily driver/main vehicle, i've really learned the value of form vs function.

You hear them while seated in the car if you're idling at a drive through (somewhere the sound can bounce back at you) with your window open or standing in front of the car with the hood open just idling. You never hear it while you're moving.

That's because the techs just throw parts at the problem it's comparable (in the IT world) to reimaging your PC because Chrome won't launch.

I am still convinced that they issued one single spare pump and now they just ship the one they pulled out of the last car on to the next dealer like a big chain letter!

The frs is incredibly roomy compared to some of my previous cars. I could see the appeal of a focus st or wrx if you need to haul people though.
