wait our car isnt a bland/everyone and their mother has "safe purchase" like a corolla or camry?

Insane!

How dare this eco-sports car not be completely quiet inside.

Also, just based on this forum alone for "crickets" we would probably have enough complaints for CR to say this car needs a recall or is horrible or something haha.

Regardless of what they said, it's an amazing vehicle and engineering feat. It's not a corolla that was meant to sell millions of units, it's a niche car that had ALL new components. I was just upset that they overlooked how amazing this car is for relatively minor issues.

Good to know son

Tl;DR; CR is absolute garbage in almost any industry they dabble in and it's hard not to get frustrated and call my girlfriend's dad an idiot for holding CR in such a high regard.[/QUOTE]

This is the girlfriends dad here, glad I found this sight and the above remark. The only tapping you'll be doing from this day forth is your fingers on the table as to why my daughter dumped your ass!!!

I jest of course and agree with what you are saying.

In fact a majority of the parts are Subaru.

I've owned several Toyotas and everyone has been rock solid.
This is my first product sold by Toyota to have so many small issues. There has not been anything major yet but there are far more little things with this car than any of my previous Toyotas.
Yeah, I'm gonna re-badge mine as a Toyota, that'll take care of the problems.

I didn't read all 7 pages so sorry if it was already mentioned, but CR also had this very positive thing to say....

Isn't this isn't the same CR that made the '12 Civic not recommended because the bean counters won out and used cheaper interior plastic!? CR thinks cheap interior plastics and chirps will make any car stall on the highway and explode! All because whiners submitting CR surveys and making the chirps a bigger deal than they are -it's just a sound people, it doesn't get you stuck! I know it shouldn't be there and Toyota/Subaru should try harder (as you would expect from any Japanese car makers.... maybe more Toyota than Subaru). Because of these whiners sales are affected (aside from sporty cars have short sales runs) and on the secondary market it'd be a disgrace if these cars develop an undeserved reputation of unreliability because of whiners and rare lemons.

CR should have a forum to explain their ratings, why are there any differences in rating between the FR-S and BRZ? Doesn't that tell you if identical cars have a disparity in their ratings then the ratings are suspect?!?!?!?

I've owned a Toyota, I've owned a Subaru and now I've own a car both manufacturers had a part in...all 3 are reliable with no faults to report. Just wear items for both my old Toyota and Subaru. My sister currently drives an Impreza and that too is reliable and dependable. It replaced her old Honda Civic because that car was less satisfactory in those areas.

That said none of my cars are 1st year vehicles with any of the glitches and teething issues. Even your typical modern Corolla and Camry has been hit with several TSBs. My dad did have a 2000 Avalon and that had its share of minor issues, the 2004 that replaced this had none of the issues.

Why is this so true? The idiots complaining after they bought the car are the one who deserves it. Let's take that mustang troll for an example... this dude goes out and buy a car then later complain about it being slow... I only got 1 word for him.. "dumbass". He in his right mind has the rights to do his research 100% before going out and buying the FRS and also has the rights to TEST DRIVE one to see how it really is and feels, but I guess that dumbass didn't do it, so he then later complains about how the frs is slow compared to mustang on a drag.... people like this just makes me wonder how they even have money to buy such things and be careless about it.

Thanks!

Thanks Subaru, Toyota, and various whiners.

Subaru/Toyota, thanks for the following issues some of us have experienced: squeaks and rattles, crickets, tail light condensation and DI seal failures (the unicorn of the bunch). Thanks for not satisfactorily resolving these issues and giving the whiners something to complain about.

Whiners, thanks for being vocal for bringing up these deficiencies and being just as vocal on lesser issues (especially for comparing the twins to cars that's are over $30k and expecting the same Q&A). Your work has resulted in CR giving the twins baseless lowest reliability possible rating possible (despite second to highest owner satisfaction?!?!?!?!?).

Kudos, your whining about crickets (it's a noise, it won't leave you stuck), stiff manual shifting when it's cold until it warms it (it happens to EVERY car), lack of hp (it's been posted 200hp since 2012 -they didn't even lie about it like Hyundai did, do your homework know what the car was meant for -if you want fast in a straight line get American muscle, if you want fast everywhere else spend double!). Your incessant whining will pay dividends and do wonders for resale values.

There was a recall...at least from Toyota side...not sure what Subaru did about the BRZ...but its a replacement for the mechanical fuel pump, sits right on left side...in the head of Bank2...if you put your head near your compressor...that's probably where the "crickets" is coming from. It was started in 2013...and revised once...so those that got it done right away may need to go back in for another fuel pump installation under warranty.

Wasn't really a recall, more like it was covered under warranty. I bought one of the second gen 13 fr-s models produced in July. Brought it in with crickets and they said they were not going to fix it because the crickets were not loud enough.

Find a different dealership. I work for Southeast Toyota and I know on this side of the country...we've replaced tons of them...for this reason...its honestly up to the tech to identify and try to get it covered. Sorry I'm not near you...or I'd gladly hook you up! lol

Where in Cali are you?
