I picked up my FR-S on Thu, and it. Is a manual Whiteout. And, I have no regrets with the transmission choice.

Very well thought out post.
Do you or does anyone yet know if the AT does actually have greater drivetrain losses? If it has full lock up from 2-6, it should lose no more power through the drivetrain than the MT once out of first. The difference in speed may be 100% due to gearing. Moreover, it's quite possible that the shift speed can be adjusted electronically so that it will shift even faster, meaning that with a tune, the difference between MT and AT may shrink to virtually nothing (and if they had added a 7th gear, it might very well have been faster than the MT...). So you're trying to say you fit into the latter category?

Very well put together post
![]() While I am all about manual cars, and will be for as long as possible because its my choice, I think I totally understand what you are explaining here Moto-P. I first got the hint when the initial reviews came out, explaining how surprisingly quick the car shifts, how good it feels etc. What I gather from Your post is that this cars transmition is great and it has been setup with enthusiasts and great spirited driving in mind regardless if you pick manual or auto

It seems like the manual is more than 1 seconds quicker. The 1/4 mile time is about 15.9 for auto and 14.8 for manual. That should give you and idea of the 0-60.

You're right though, and if a driver is capable of launching and shifting precisely and ultra-quick in each shift, the manual will have an advantage, but many of us non-drag racers don't like to slap-shift that fast, unless there is a shiny stick on wooden base and cash prize at the end of the 1/4 mile or a 20 min stint on the local track. This AT is precise, durable, and consistent even if your grandmother floored it out of a green light, as long as she can hold the gas pedal there. But again, I'll be fair in saying, I got an AT because this is my daily driver, and was keen on playing with electronic shifting car for the next several months. And not dismissing the 6 on the floor manual, which I plan to own within 24 months for my track use second FRS.

hey guys...all responded here...
My initial post was to address those who are caught between the choice of AT and MT. It wasn't meant to be a propaganda against MT, for those who have already made up their minds... I'm just telling those who are contemplating for whatever reason, that to be comforted, that this AT is one of the best sports-AT around in any car at any price, and feel free to endulge. For those that enjoy MANUAL with standard clutch, by all means get it in MT. I'm getting one for my second FRS. So please don't flame me for this post, I'm merely suggesting that AT is not an invalid choice for those who do contemplate on this choice. COOL?
