Hey, on the topic of always on... as maker of TapTurn, I had an idea I wanted to float by this group of high intensity bright minded people (yes you!).

Been toying with making a TapTurn signal flasher with a new feature. It would be the same plug and play flasher module as we've come to know an love , but with an added user-selectable mode that inverts signal light output while IGN is on. Huh?

I've actually gotten a couple requests for such a thing, and I have another project where this would be needed. Let me explain.

Basically, when you start the car, signal lights at all four corners and dash indicators would come on and stay on while driving. Always on. Until you actually indicate a signal, or use the hazards while driving. When you do that, the signal bulbs on the indicating side dip off for each blink, so you get "dark blinks". When signaling is done, everything resumes to always on state.

The effect from the front of the car would be an additional set of DRL's. You might combine this with certain modes of the Diode D always on mod, and with fogs switched on too it would give a complete full frontal light bath on whatever you're pointed toward. You might play with switchback ideas up front so white dips to amber for blinks, instead of dark. I dunno.

It would also let you do other custom things with your stock DRL, like convert those to be on with or in place of fog lights. Knowing your signals are now acting like DRL.

The effect from the rear would be signal bulbs acting as corner markers or rear facing DRL's while driving. And is something you never have to think about. These would just be on even when the headlight switch is off. And they'd stay on when lights are switched on too. They only go off for signal (or hazard) dark blinks, same as the front.

Of course, these all go off when car IGN is shut off. All other TapTurn features and hazards would work as they do today. This inverse mode could be inverted again by a user program step that flips it around the right way again. It's effects are only ever seen while driving (IGN on).

Why have this? One thing around here, in Canada, is we are always getting these traffic radio host reminders near dusk and twilight hours saying, "don't forget to turn on your headlights so your tail lights are on too and others can see you better from behind." Well, this feature takes that concern away.

And it takes care of rearward improved visibility in fog, acting as rear fog lights marking the car even when headlight switch is off. You never have to think about it. TapTurn adding rearward fog warning markers, just peace of mind.

And another reason is for some other cars (not yours) that do use signal lights as DRL's. I'm currently saying "no" to that market and would like to think of ways to say "yes". Toyota trucks are common for using signals as DRL's.

Thoughts... ? Maybe I should have launched a new thread but I felt I knew the author of this one well enough to feel welcome here, and it is related to always on.. just another thing on.

I like this idea so far as long I have first dibs on a FREE upgrade! Just kidding
I'd be very interested and welcome these additional features as mentioned. Starting a new thread to check potential buyers might be the next step

Aha, yes, legality. Considering that some Toyota's already use front signals as DRL, and they "dark blink" to indicate signaling... just as I am describing, I'm going to assume it's legal. At least on the front of the car to do this.

On the rear, well, color might be an issue if there is regulation on saying that if it's amber on the rear it can only be used for signals. If you've got red rear signals, then .... who's to say it isn't just part of parking/marking/tail light system? There may be different rules in different countries about color of things and what can and can't blink.

Which brings me to the last point on this important matter...

And I already know other features of TapTurn would not be legal on the street in some jurisdictions ... that hasn't stopped me from putting the product out but at least a disclaimer to check what laws apply to you!

Well, we'll see

And I'll take this to a new thread if it's not shut down as an insanely stupid idea right here right now.

Cheers!

Not a bad idea, but I'm not sure it would work, as you'd have the amber rear indicators (OEM tail lamp) or a high-level red output (aftermarket or swapped with red LEDs) on all the time. Front would be no problem, but it's certainly not legal to run rear-facing amber lamps or even a high-level red lamp (high in terms of both position and output)

Just wanting to let everyone know I just replugged it all and got it working. Make sure your car is ON during install, and you'll ONLY see the lights come on when you're in drive. Not park or with the ebrake up.

When you're in drive, the lights will STAY ON even if the switch is moved to "o" (or "Off").

Mine work perfectly.

Correct. During the day, the DRLs must be switched on (Vehicle started and in drive or ebrake down). This module doesn't change when the DRL comes on, it just illuminates your boomerang as an additional DRL.

And at night, it illuminates DRL when headlights are on.

Thanks for following up!

Quick question. With the module in place, will the boomerangs still operate as a DRL if the OEM DRLs themselves are disconnected/removed?

Guys that have this installed, are you even able to see the boomerang during the daytime? If I turn them on during the day they are not really noticeable at all.
