I think they are missing the point when comparing the rc f to an m4. Or c63. The m4 is a more track focused car. Its a great car and is incredibly fast. Yet how many people who buy an m4 are actually going to track it often? probably very few. The rcf is a road car. Its a luxurious street coupe with some aggressive attributes. Then the c63 is a luxurious muscle car.

"My m4 is .3 seconds quicker on the track, then your rcf."

" Damn you get to work a whole .3 seconds quicker!! Congrats!"

I've stopped paying any attention to bimmers and m3's after the e46 m3. They all look like the sme shit now. The rcf is just so fresh and sexy luxor looking. Even if it was 10 sec slower, i'll still take the rcf. Way better styling over the bmw.

No matter how sexy the RC-F is it weighs 4k.

I've driven a 4klb car and its just not what in a car. Too heavy, bloated, tons of body roll, and hard to maneuver around.

It feels like driving a SUV and that is not how driving a sports car should feel, even if it is a GT.

Then to add more sting when I inquired about getting one none of the dealers order them without $15-$20k in markups. When I asked about ordering one the way I want they were not very receptive. Told me I would be looking at 6+ month wait time.

I don't think they are missing the point; Lexus apparently is marketing this as a car for enthusiasts who visit the track often. Their objective testing shows that it is not the fastest offering in its class. It isn't to say that every buyer is ultimately concerned with the fastest offering in that class (think WRX STi vs. Golf R; the STi is a hair faster but the Golf R much more refined), but if the RC-F doesn't shine over the M4 in some other way, then it's not a very good competitor in my mind. Just from the reviews I've seen it appears to have at least a few shortcomings.

Considering it's class, yes. However if it can't hang with the M5 and E63 it'll be just another "me-too" offering from Lexus.

you may be right. The F division of Lexus is also fairly new no? M and AMG have been around for a while now. The Rcf shines over the m4 in terms of uniqueness. I see m3's and m4's at least 3 or 4 times a day but rarely do you ever see an IsF on the streets. It probably doesnt matter to most but I value uniqueness in a car very highely.

RC-F = smooth ride, bad handling, luxury features.
FR-S = somewhat rough ride, great handling, spartan features.

Depends on what you want. I for one do not want a luxurious coupe masquerading as a sports car. Others may disagree.

This car performed exactly as I expected, that is, not well.

On a bit of a tangent, I drive my FR-S to work every day on fair to middlin' roads. When I need to take my wife's C-Max, I swear it feels as if I am driving an older Cadillac. :-)

I know that you cant really take top gears opinion on cars, but they reviewed it recently on S22E4 i think, watched it the other day... words like heavy, understeer, numb etc where all mentioned,

I really dont think its in competition with the m4, but rather a more fitting comparison would be the outgoing C63 AMG coupe ( not the new turbo one)

I watched that TG last night. One of the most disappointing TG segments I have ever seen because it was like he was just having a shitty day and took it out on the car. Like, he was literally just ripping at the wheel like a child in a bad mood.

The guy has a history of loving 4000lb cars (Mercs, Bentley, etc). I don't see what happened here that he just decided to saw on the steering wheel for a bit on a wet track and complain about the different driver modes.

Other than the LaFerrari segment, this season's top gear has been very poor.

I saw it too just last night and I agree with you regarding Jeremy's rather savage driving. He has driven a lot of cars however, and I think his disappointment was rooted in the lack of feel and weight balance for the RC-F. In the price range they are asking, there are much better performing sports cars to be had.

I do wish that they had let the Stig drive it, though. That would have meant something. Also, the whole "rescue" bit was just annoying. How much danger can there be if Richard has a whole camera crew with him? Also, isn't this a show about cars???

Review of the rc f by speedhunters. thought id bring this thread alive a little. Another topic: wasnt there a few rumours of a rcf gt with like 600hp? what are the chances of a refresh soon to lighten the car or possibly add more power?

I spent 15 years behind the wheel of a 1971 240Z with many updates.

I spent one year behind the wheel of a 2014 Monogram Edition FRS 6spd.

I've now been behind the wheel of a Carbon Edition RC F for 3 weeks.

You have no idea what you are talking about, and parroting what some reviewers have to say does nothing.

The RC F over the local scale with a full tank of gas and 200lb driver is right at 4,200lbs, but I can tell you it will run circles around my FRS on the backroad runs that I spend a lot of time driving. I can maintain higher entry speed, higher corner speed, and the exit is not even comparable.

The ride on the RC F is night and day better than the FRS, the amenities are not comparable, and I will never look back.

The RC F is the most fun I have ever had in a daily driver ... Period!

Mine looks just like this:

The RC F hides its weight VERY well!

Most dealers are ordering with less than $10,000.00 is add-on's. The premium, performance, cold weather, Mark Levinson, etc. packages all add up to about $13,000.00.

It took me about 3 months from order to door, and that timeframe is much less now that the carbon edition is released.
