I hope the bean counters at Toyota will take notice of this and come out with some formally backed company cars. There was the Stout supercharged FRS in World Challenge a year or so ago but it was in the pits more than on track. It is indeed sad that road racing is going pretty strong right now in the US and the hottest recent street car has 1 example racing professionally. How about multiple cars in both Pirelli and Conti series, with factory backing of some kind?

I go to the ALMS, and now the TUSCC, every year and I would love to see my car racing there!

Hopefully in 2016 AZP will field a car for a few events at least. We will be building the Spec86 Cup Series so that there is a greater pool of cars to head into professional racing.

Factory backing is zero which is part of the issue.

Yet Toyota (TRD) is sponsoring the Griffin development car in Japan, the Gazoo racing GT86s in the VLN races in Europe and spec series for Europe, Australia and Asia.

Where is the support for the North American road racing series? After the disastrous failure of the supercharged FR-S in PWC TRD and Toyota have disappeared except in NASCAR, offroad and the synchronized dancing they call Drift.

They should have been racing in the Continental Challenge ST class and the PWC TC and TCA class all along instead of racing in GTS with a configuration that they never intended to sell for the street anyway. If they had Toyota/Scion would probably already have a couple series championships by now.

It is not too late. They just need to provide some technical help and financial incentives and the racers will come to this platform and win races.

Oh I know all about Stout. I followed them very closely through their seasons. Stout Racing is a classic example of trying to run before crawl. Their first season, 2013, was plagued by mechanical issues and their second season they only entered one race in which they crashed out. Not long after they liquified all their stuff and it's safe to say they hung up their gloves since then. Such a shame. They should've went for TC instead of GTS. I'm 100% positive they would still be around if they hadn't of tried to jump in with the big boys in gts. Oh well, Tony Rivera is here now and doing great so far. He definitely is taking a smarter approach to this new platform. Hopefully one day once the mechanical issues are sorted, we can climb into the gts field and duke it out with V8s.

The races were really fun to watch, even though the weather could've cooperated a bit more. Being from Austin, it's so cool to see the 86 performing well on my hometown track.

Does anyone know how they class the cars? Does the car have to be stock as far as power is concerned? It's one thing to see an 86 dusting Kias, Civic Si's and running head-to-head with RX-8's, but I wanna see an 86 with proper power go toe-to-toe with the camaros and mustangs in the big boy classes. We know the car handles as well as the miatas and caymens, now it's time to put the power on par to give us a fighting chance in the straights!

Let's get this car the respect it deserves and show the American muscle fanboys what a proper sports car looks like.

It was up against the cars you named, but it was unreliable and not very quick. Want it or not, this car is not made to run against the big boys. Rivera is running a great class for this car, and I would imagine that running the next step up would be a great class as well.

That's more what I'm talking about... not necessarily the GT class. My bad, I should've been more specific.

As cool as it would be to see the 86 running with the BIG big-boys, I'm thinking we should at least be able to challenge the top of the TC class. Rivera gained on, and may have passed IIRC, some of the stragglers from the TC class as is.

Also, I know this car isn't made to run against the big boys on the drag strip, but it absolutely should be able to hang on the track. Isn't that the entire premise of this car? An affordable, track-ready car after a few minor mods... I'm not talking about the GTRs, McLarens, high-end Porsches and Audis. However, I do think it has to be feasible to put enough reliable power in an 86 to challenge the American muscle that handle like boats on the track.

Just my opinions and personal dreams for this platform... you can only smoke so many civics and kia fortes before you want to establish yourself as a true competitor in the sports car world.

Actually it would be better to see more cars in the TCA class. We are hoping to do a few rounds in TCA next year with our Spec86 and hopefully can drag out a few other Spec86 guys to do the races as well. Unfortunately running a pro race costs A LOT of money even in the lower classes between entry fees, crew, transport, etc...

GTS I think is trying to punch too high. TCA seems to be a great base class for the FRS, and TC looks like a very achievable class as well, but way more money will need to be thrown into the car. Unless Scion decide to make a factory backed effort for GTS, I don`t see it being done.

I also don`t get why we don`t see more BRZ and FRS in circuit racing. It would seem to be a great base chassis, but their must be something about them that we don`t see that handicaps them or that backing just isn`t enough for teams to switch. Parts must be homologated for racing, so if no one is driving them of pushing for homologations, their is no way to race the car most of the times.
