Having extra speakers in the back is pointless. It's only for rear passengers, which will hardly ever be in the car, and just adds unnecessary weight to the vehicle.
WRONG! Crankin' Ozzie through 6x9 Jensen Tri-Axials carved into the back of my Dad's Impala was the best sounding car audio, e-ver.

Agreed! Installed some 6x9's in the rear shelf of our Maxima, and it was transformative. As much bass as a traditional sub? Well no, but its close enough (with the rest of the speakers) that you could live without a space eating heavy sub enclosure in the boot.

As for our cars, you really need to hear the difference going from 3" coke can sized speakers to 5.25" units in the back walls. Seated close to the centre point between all your speakers is pure magic, if you love your music.

Examples off the top of my head:
2004-2007 Acura TL
2003-2008?- Infiniti G35
Low volume and profit cars like the twins probably won't go through substantive updates/changes through the years except for a few minor tweaks to improve reliability. Also, the body style probably won't change for up to 8+ years as one-off platforms are very costly to do R&D.

Unless Subaru and Toyota start to do more platform sharing or component sharing, I don't see substantial changes coming until at least 2018. Look at how long the NC Miata was on the market. Look at how long the 370/350Z have gone between changes.

Has the US gotten the previous few models around the same time as Japan? I am kind curious when the 2016 is gonna hit US shores.

Exactly. People seem to forget this car is sold as a tuner car.

99% of mid cycle refreshes involve new bumpers, lights and some interior changes, not 10% power hikes and BBK's.

We wont see any major changes until and entirely new model is bought out.

At least that won't piss off current owners (much) and mess with resale values. Watch the resale drop like a rock the moment a later model gets an improved engine or other must have advancements.

I'm fine with minor updates. I'd still likely buy another twin, in a couple of years time, and a string of updates (over the years) would make it fresh enough to be worth pulling the trigger again.

No. US is a little later then the official row (rest of world) launch...

For 2015, production started in May[1], but US didn't start see twins till summer (june/july/aug). Here in New England, we couldn't order 2015 BRZ's until late October!

When I first started researching the twins around this time last year, I looked up the 2014 release threads to get a gauge on what would happen in 2015.

FYI, I ordered my 2015 Aozora Edition on April 29, 2014 and my car arrived on June 18, 2014. I think the built date on my car is May 7, 2014.

I am from Vancouver, Canada.

I know you guys don't want to hear it but if this is really all they updated then that's super lame. Tada said "I promise bigger updates are coming soon." If a tweak to the power steering is considered a big update then FML...

Um....pretty sure both the FRS and BRZ come with power windows. Ya the BRZ comes with the extra sound dampening in the back and the heated seat electronics in BRZ limited which aren't what you normally get in a typical car (weighs less and delivers less heat), but everything else generally weighs the same; both have A/C, wheels, suspension, etc.

The added luxuries in the BRZ compared to the FRS or GT86 can't possibly weigh more then 30 pounds. If you're that serious about weight reduction take out the back seats, the spare tire, and keep the gas below 1/4 of a tank.

Edit: Also in the USA I'm pretty sure it becomes a law that for all 2016 and later cars must have a backup camera, so that's an improvement.
