I find the PvP difference is based on a few factors that are employed by good players.
First, the ability to adapt as MokSpeed mentioned. This translates to very high situational awareness and quick changes to tactics. Each enemy in PvP is unique, they move differently and have different strengths and weaknesses. Find ways to adapt and exploit them. You need to be able to assess each enemy in any area of the map, where your teammates currently are and what the goal is at the moment. Being on an actual team with voice chat is huge, we've had the entire team instantly switch goals because one person saw something away from the group. Secondly, mobility. Its hard to hit a moving object. If you can maintain momentum and change direction quickly, you will simply be harder to hit with any weapon. I have changed all my builds to high agility with secondary emphasis on recovery, because it works in PvP and PvE. Get accustomed to snapping your aim to targets very quickly while moving. Thirdly, map knowledge. The maps are mostly small and easy to memorize. Map knowkedge will help you learn common routes between key points, sniper spots, etc. You'll know where to aim as you round a corner without having to think about it. It will also help your defense immensely, if you know where things are you can duck behind cover without having to look for it first. Radar usage is a huge part of this, keep one eye on the reticle and one eye on the radar, and get to know the maps. Fourth, good builds. This goes for both PvE and PvP, but using complimentary gear is a pretty big bonus. One of the most effective I can think of right now is Bad Juju and Obsidian Mind for a voidwalker Warlock for more supers. Another is No Backup Plans and Monte Carlo (sorry XB1) for defender Titan for more force barrier. Using a gun you're handy with is a good idea, but learn to use all weapon classes effectively. This is not only more fun, but helps your aim to develop to get those tasty crits. |

Map knowledge is where most people struggle, myself included.

I agree, I don't play PvP enough to know the maps well. Back when I grinded IB for a week, it was the first and only time where I saw my skill improved in PvP and most of that was I learned the maps. Now, I just run around like a chicken with my head cut off. I'm not even sure if I've played on all the maps since they added new ones with TDB.
wheelhaus makes good points about building your character to fit the tactics. I'm also horrible about this when it comes to PvP, usually I just jump in and play without making too many adjustments. On another note, did anyone pick up Red Death from Xur this morning? I'm not a big pulse rifle guy, but people seem to really like this one so I picked it up. |

Ended up with full legendary/exotic armor for a Titan, so decided to delete my 2nd warlock. Let's see if I can get him to 30 before the reset and a 4th chance at shards I don't need from the nightfall...

Yeah, I've picked up 3 new primaries in the last 2 weeks now so I need to start getting back on every day and running some bounties I guess. I also had heard about that perk being very valuable for CE HM so guess it was good I picked it up. What time were you wanting to Raid this weekend?

Red Death is a 2hko in Crucible. That's why everyone wants it. I'm getting one, plan on maxing it out and using it, maybe in IB next week if I can grind it out quickly. And if I want to switch to a secondary or heavy exotic I'll go with 3LW.

but that's just never going to happen. Focusing on Fang of Ir Yut first then I'm not sure, either Vex or Red Death I guess. I also need to start getting back on every day to run at least a few bounties, not that I even need to level these guns...This weekend is bad for me, probably working most of it. Thatswutsup said Sunday which is probably the only day that'll work for me.

Snipers have yet to be patched and I see no reason why they should be at all. Skilled guns for skilled kills. With the adjustment of Auto Rifles it is apparent now that pulse rifles reign supreme. Scout rifles remain highly competitive, however, they simply cannot compete with the rate of fire on the pulse rifle's bursts. Shotguns did not receive much of a buff, but the reason they are so deadly now is because of the adjustments they have made to fusion rifles. Fusion rifle shots have been adjusted to contain a much more drastic bloom effect lowering their effective range to nearly the equivalent of a shotgun. Because of this, shotguns absolutely dominate now since they require no charge time. |

Personally I'd never run anything other than a hand cannon or a rifle for my primary (Vex was basically an auto rifle prior to patch), but that's just my play style. |
