Ted's car can do a 1:54 given perfect conditions and a perfect lap, and it hasn't changed for a while now, minus addressing gremlins. |

Reputable tuners include OFT, Moto East, Delicious Tuning, and Prime Motoring. I'm sure there are others. Element Tuning if you want to replace the ECU.
Jackson Racing, Full Blown, and Perrin make, to my knowledge, the most popular oil coolers. I've bought myself a MAP oil cooler, not yet received, because I'm a cheap ass and won't be going FI. An oil cooler is essential on the track. I'll see how my oil and coolant temps go. Not 100% sure if I need a larger radiator too. For FI, the Jackson Racing super charger is a popular, reliable choice. Ptuning is probably the way to go for a track turbo kit. Not cheap, but the turbo location helps a lot with heat. SBD is the cheap turbo kit of choice. They're Zage in Taiwan, I believe, but CSG Mike has expressed concerns over heat and front-mounted turbos. Full Blown focuses on the drag racing. Element Tuning runs big power and has done a lot of development for track cars. If I were to build a turbo engine for major power that's reliable at the track, I'd talk to him. He's done a lot of work on oiling issues at high HP. He's also managed it all with a shitty FA20Club front mount turbo kit. If I were you, I'd buy this car today: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2142833

Has anyone run sub-2 on an NA, street tire, non-aero twin yet? Fastest time for S2K in that configuration seems to be 1:59.xx.

For coilpacks, there's no silver bullet. It's basically a matter of keeping under-hood temps down -- catless header, thermal coating the header/overpipe, hood vent, thermal taping the coilpack, etc. Luckily coilpacks aren't that expensive to swap.

Yes...like 2 years ago by you know who, however, those conditions were basically perfect. Breaking the 59 mark is far easier now than last year. That new pavement is so nice now. Even with my personal car setup and on the brick tires, 59s are possible with sufficient balls. With fresh tires, we're looking at possible 57s or 58s.

I'm with most of the people here. I would choose the S2000 over the FRS in this case. My S2000 had about 120k miles when I sold it. It was religiously maintained. Only issue I had was the drive shaft going out but that was replaced under warranty. Did valve adjustment at 100k miles and it ran like new. My FRS has 35k miles now and has been trouble free (knock on wood). The FRS is no doubt a better daily driver.
For what you're looking to do with the car, the S2000 is a better option IMO. |
