Going to Japan, Need Help!
So I'm planning on going to Japan (Tokyo Area, I assume that I'll be going to Narita Airport as well.) with some of my cousins before I head to the Phillipines. I haven't bought a ticket yet and am aiming to go around mid-end of december.
I've always wanted to go and I don't have any friends that have ever gone. Now the question that I pose is what places/things should I do while I'm there. Also I REAALLLYYYY want to try to go to an automotive event of some kind if there is one around that time. If not, is there a place that I can go and experience some kind of Car Culture (I've heard of Daikoku Futo) while im there? Thanks in advance!

Have fun paying for those tickets. Going anywhere in Asia in December usually costs an arm and a leg. With that being said, there is a lot of fun stuff to do. Honestly the few couple of times I've been to Japan, I've had the least fun in Tokyo. Are you looking for a more historically rich trip there or just looking to have fun and tear it up in the night life? If you're dead set on Tokyo there's still lots of stuff do to there of course.

I don't have a choice in the matter though, family is going to the Phillipines dec-jan so this is the best shot I've got of going to Japan. If I could choose I would go in the spring or summer.I'm really open to anything. I like historical & cultural stuff and I wouldn't mind going to a party or two. I'm kinda canvasing for some ideas right now because my time there will be limited. I want to try to fit in going to buy some shit for my BRZ myself while I'm there at some stores but I doubt I'll have the time ![]() If I need to get out of Tokyo, I'm open for taking a train somewhere as long as it's not TOO far. I'm good for a few hours or so. Any suggestions are really appreciated ![]() I guess my next question is, what would be the 1 thing you would do if you were to go for 1 day? If not 1 then few? I dunno, still trying to sort out in my head what EXACTLY i want to do while im there LOL Cheers |

Buy ur tickets early"4-6 monthes ahead is nice", or it's gonna be expensive. If you gonna travel alot get those railway passes, call a japanese travel agency & ask them, cuz travel expense in japan can add up really quick.
Never been to auto event there so I can't help....... but I do know lots drifters there host lessons at different local track. Best luck to you. PS: If you go at January, you can goto tokyo auto salon...? It's the 2nd weekend of every january. |

For historical, Kyoto was awesome. The night life looked boring as hell, though. Party town, Osaka; what a blast. Tokyo was very nice, but pricy. Get an international driving permit so you can rent a car and drive the C1 late at night and get buzzed by Nagata-san and the midnight club.
[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HPF-Rf69Ss"]Nissan Skyline 1200hp 328km/h @ Tunnel - YouTube[/ame] I walked through that tunnel from Heneda one night. I didn't know there was a subway station under the damned airport. ![]() I saw a few fast cars, but one GT-R, wow. When the car dipped down through the decline in the tunnel, he was just scooting along at maybe 80-90 MPH, but when he saw me walking along he punched it. The wastegate sound about made me deaf and I could feel pressure in the tunnel as he ripped by.

Odaiba is a quick trip and you can visit the Toyota world they have there. They have a simple test drive track if you have an international drivers license. Not sure what they currently have for test driving though. It's quite possible you'll see people who would know about our cars and could direct you to a place that sells parts. If you're in search of historical and cultural landmarks, Tokyo wouldn't be my first suggestion. The kansai region is far more rich in history IMO. I'd suggest getting a JR pass and taking the train to Kyoto, Himeji, or even Hiroshima. I'll assume going to Kyushu is out of the picture but beppu has some nice onsen if you're interested in Japanese hot springs. But if I could have only done one thing in Tokyo, it would have been visiting the ghibli museum in mitaka. Most of the time I was in Tokyo I was getting lost in the streets. Tokyo has a weird street system and this was before the time of smartphones.

The whole car scene is overrated. Go enjoy the scenery, eat some traditional food and do some shopping (if you can afford it). Don't waste your time with things that you can do in the states. Start with Shibuya, Harajuku and Yokohama. Nightime is the best.
