Money shifts keep junk yards in business!

I'd sell the FRS if i was you. I don't know how you're driving around a car that you don't find fun that is supposed to be fun. Who likes living a lie?

I've bought better miatas for that price. If the mods aren't exactly what you want, buy a better condition car for the price

Haha I do like the FR-S. It's so low, quick, agile. It's a great car and I don't regret getting it at all. I just regret not getting the manual transmission.

I've decided to look around longer for a better condition car for that price. Thanks for all your help!

Saw this a few days too late. In Texas, $3k is probably about right for a NA1 in pretty decent condition, which is what this car seems to be. Sad to say, but yeah 5th gear on a 1.6 ain't going to be much; and I wouldn't worry too much on the popup's not going down - could be an easy fix. I paid $1,800 (iirc) for my crap-bucket about 4-5 years ago, but I felt like I was saving a car from the junkyard, and I was a broke college student at the time.
Owning my current 1.6 (saving $ for LSX swap), and previously owned a boosted 1.6 & an NB - I'd strongly recommend looking at a '94+ car. The 1.8 IMHO definitely feels stronger, than the anemic 1.6. Going beyond that, I'd try to locate a NB ('99+), they are not that much more price-wise (at least around these parts), and overall I think it's a bit more comfortable & refined without getting too cushy...

Miata are very reliable, much more then our 86. 3000$ seems about right. Pick it up its a fun little car. I still have my 91 NA the old school feel is hard to beat in IMO
