Reverse camera?

I read on about.com's review of the BRZ (http://cars.about.com/od/subaru/fr/2...Brz-Review.htm) that it has a "a handy backup camera" - I haven't heard anything about this feature before. Bad journalism, bad me, or awesome feature we haven't seen mentioned?

I don't recall a backup camera on USDM models but I do remember seeing them on JDM models. Maybe the reviewer just assumed it had a backup camera? Then again, how can you drive the car, review it, then not realize there wasn't a backup camera? He must have had to back the car up at least once. Maybe he only drove in forward gears the whole time.

The bespoke on the FR-S supports a rearview camera, not sure if the car is already wired for one.

The BRZ Navi also supports an optional rearview camera, not sure if it is already wired for one either.

Does Pioneer have any documentation posted for either of the head units?

The BRZ uses the navigation from the 2012 Impreza/Forester made by Fujitsu Ten. There are inputs on the unit to accept a back up camera.

FWIW, the outback's backup camera screen is in the homelink rearview mirror. It would be pretty simple for this to be in the BRZ without working with the nav screen

They also use Pioneer units on Imprezas, which don't have reference of video input of any kind.

I know BRZ EU version comes with parktronic sensors. Being a world car, if they had an option to fit in a camera vs sensors, it would be cheaper to go with the camera if head unit would support it. Well, it looks like it doesn't, and they fitted it with parktronic instead.

I'm the guy who wrote that review, and the backup camera that was a rather embarrassing mistake on my part. Did my final edit late at night and somehow let that through. Sorry, everyone, and I promise the rest of the review is accurate... at least, I hope it is. And thanks for reading so carefully!

I refer you to the First Rule of Italian Driving.

Naw, the truth is that I drive a lot of cars, deal with a lot of spec sheets, and often work on multiple reviews simultaneously. I try to fact-check carefully, but every once in a while, I get something crossed up. Usually on a really popular car that everyone is talking about. Funnily enough, my last Chevy Colbalt XFE review was flawless, as both of the people who read it will no doubt tell you.

Subaru alludes to it on their website. Check the screenshot above Conveniences:

Sooo is it possible to have one installed? I think it would be nice having one with the display on the nav screen in the center console. Anyone else agree?
