I woke up on the way to the hospital about 1/2 an hour later, staring up at my neighbor (he was a first responder and rode along in the ambulance). I was told later that I walked into the department secretary's office at the college where I worked, my face bleeding profusely, looking something like the star of a zombie film, and said "I think I hurt myself."

I didn't remember a thing from the time that I entered the parking lot (but before the caliper broke) until I came around in the ambulance. It is just a short blank space in my life. I don't believe I lost consciousness, but I definitely was not in the real world. Fortunately, I didn't break anything (like my neck, for example) and recovered with only some minor scars on my face, which I tell my wife gives me more character.

Our lucky young lady in the FR-S may never remember what happened but the police investigators will undoubtedly be able to reconstruct it. I'm also pleased that she is willing to jump back in again with another FR-S!
In terms of brain injury (I have professional training), the severity is determined based on a) the amount of time of loss of consciousness and b) the amount of time pre or post injury of loss of memory. the hours before is not too huge. But days or weeks or more is a more serious issue.

Its possible to not remember if you hit your head hard enough/blackout/get concussed.

I dont have that much experience in car accidents and if hitting an airbag hard enough will do anything, bruising the brain. But I have woken up in a hospital before, not being able to recall the last 4 days after recieving a blow to the head. It slowly came back over months, but I still a year later, cannot remember the actual incident.

hit your head hard enough, and you'll know! actually... you wont remember.

I can relate to this completely!! I'm also an avid bike rider, and when you crash your on the ground before ya know it....add to that the over the bars faceplant and yeah....bad news. Its mostly unrelated, except from a safety and ya never know whats coming standpoint, but I rail people pretty hard on helmet use too. And yeah, she is already hard at trying to locate a replacement FRS!!! (white or black as long as its pearl)

Wow. I always felt weird because I can't remember anything other than "maroon truck" from a biking incident I had years ago... though I know it was downhill and I had right-of-way and I came off the bike just fine (clipless... and it was a brand new bike so a new system...) I think smacking my head saved me (small scar on my chin, new helmet, new handlebar was the cost) or I'd have skidded into said maroon truck - perhaps the side, but perhaps in front of a wheel or something... Someone stopped and asked if I was OK (may have been driver of said truck?) I said "yeah" and they left. I'd evidently remembered to roll off the road, got up some time later and I biked the final 1/4 mile to work and opened up shop. First employee that showed up just about hit the roof - I was covered in blood. I had no idea.

Whee.

Still use the bike, but don't get much opportunity (Gary Fischer Sugar II... did lots of off-trail work with 20lbs of camera gear on my back.)

There's a reason I plan to keep the stock seats even though AutoX is about the only thing I'll be doing with the car and will be very close to max legal prep. Chicago isn't a joke when it comes to driving...

We get annoyed with the nannies sometimes, but they save FAR more lives than people they upset. And sometimes cause problems (ice mode... grrrr.)

Carry on.

You're fucked up man and you need to learn to read. I said I was with my family doing less than 30mph on the way to go apple picking and the other car ran the stop sign at over 50mph. I never said anything about a head on. These are local streets with 30mph speed limits that I know very well and know what to expect and when but this was so over the top there was no way to predict it. Look at the picture and you can see the stop sign that she went through then do a laymans "accident investigation" and you'll realize it had to have been a t-bone. Especially when you read the part about how her car flew off the side of the road you'll get it that it couldn't have been head on. Do you have any idea how fast a car can come up on you from the side at that kind of closing rate? Apparently not. Now, go smoke a bowl and take a lap.

OP - please keep us updated and let us know how her recovery progresses and if there is anything she can tell us to help keep the hubbub to a minimum.

I completely agree. These guys come on here talking about the importance of air bags, and now all of a sudden they are car crash experts because they had a bicycle accident and try to use you as their scape goat.

That was the OP that you responded to above!
I think that he was using your example to say that you were not on drugs and to assume you were because you had an accident is ridicules. He wasn't saying you were but quite the opposite! He is on your side and was just trying too counter De-bounce's statement.

Woke up with a face full of airbags (which she used a knife she apparently kept in the center console to cut away - tough chick!!!). The roof was probably more a victim of the fire dept cutting her out of the car...but yeah does kinda look like she got hit on the side.
As with everyone else here, so glad to hear that she's doing OK.
Scary!!

The examples of memory loss are totally relevant to counter statements such as yours (highlighted above). These guys were giving examples of such loss as a direct result of an accident.
The answer to everything is not "they must of have been on drugs".
You have gone well past the point of jokes and entered the realm of offensive at this point!

Oops. After a long work day and rough commute home I should be more careful.

Sorry everyone.
