My wife/ex-wife has car still. I think it is a piece is shit. In 4 months since it got fixed, by Subaru, it has broken down 3 times.

I am trying not to be sexist , but i am yet to meet a lady in australia , that checks oil level , tyre pressure , or even how much fuel is left.
The amount of times that i rescue my wife in her camry!
Back to topic-
My brz has run perfectly for two years so far.
The only issue was when a subaru mechanic caused idle failure when doing a routine service.
I took it straight back and they fixed it.

The topic isn't about the majority that work fine. It is about the minority that have all had the same issue regardless of service intervals, oil levels, modification or driving conditions. It is just in intermittent inherent fault in the vehicle.

I was a touch skeptical with this at first, seeing as how the US interval for 2015 is 6 months or 6000 miles (9600 km), but sure enough:

I understand that environmental variables affect service intervals, but you'd think you'd want to take an OZ car in a bit more frequently than that. If not just to clean the mass of giant dead spiders from the engine bay.

I think we can all agree (at least most of us) that there is a fatal flaw in the design of this engine. Time for someone who had this happen to them to start a class action lawsuit! (just like owners did when Toyota engines were failing a few years ago and the dealers kept blaming the owners. Ended up the engine design was at fault)

It is a 2013 model pre ordered before release date with free servicing so there is no reason for it not to be serviced other than Subaru stuffed up and passed the blame to me.

We're still in the 'handful of cases' phase, by far the biggest problem so far has been the cam position sensor issues that have been stickied, this is still much smaller than that.

Don't have to go back too far in the posts to see people calling for a class action lawsuit on the DI seals failing, even though the big thread documenting everyone who had a problem capped out at around 100. 100 failures for >50,000 units does not a class action make.

Fully agreed that this engine has not been confidence inspiring when it comes to reliability (doubly so as it seems rare for Toyobaru to put a new engine in), we should start seeing the high-mileage guys hitting 100k within the next year or two, will be interesting for sure...

plus, it has been said time and time again that those posting issues here reflect a small percentage of all the twins out there. But you can't know that for sure..that's assuming everyone with an issue has posted here. There could be thousands that don't bother with car forums who are having issues. Only Subaru/Toyota know the true numbers.
