Never been to a NASCAR race. Might try to catch one this year. Maybe Watkins Glen? It's only 4 hours from here.

Used to watch a lot, been to Sonoma twice to watch a NASCAR race, haven't sat down an watched a race start to finish in years though. I love NASCAR's format but the long restrictor plate races really turn into the first 30 lap sprint, an hour or two long testing session and then a 60 lap race to the finish (or whatever two tanks of gas gets them).
Does that two car draft thing from a few years ago still work? That conflicts me, on the one hand it's like Mario Kart where two guys get a mushroom and then next lap two different guys get a mushroom, on the other hand it injected some unpredictability and gave us Trevor Bayne, much more memorable than other years... |

Jeff Gordan and i forget who else just use it to push them infront of jimmie johnson at the beginning of the race today im just glad they arent doing single line racing, they did this last year at Daytona and it was so boring to watch atleast this years Daytona they are 2 wide and even at times 3 wide, good solid race so far |

2 car draft works, but you can't stay hooked up for more than a "bump".
NASCAR pays the bills, just wish the 1 and 42 would have finished better, but that's plate racing. |

Im a big NASCAR fan and have been in Daytona for the whole weekend.
I'm very upset to see Jeff retire. Been a fan of his since I was about 10 years old. Glad I decided to go to see his last 500. Trying to pick a new younger driver to follow in the future. I'll probably just stick with the team and follow Chase Elliot in the 24 next year. |

Great race....interesting how one or two really strong cars could 'control' the field. No one could challenge 48/88/22 if they were out front, luckily they got shuffled back for Logano.

I wish they could find a way to make it more like it was in the 90's. Back then there was still the chess match with the draft, but much more spread out due to worse handling. The fast guys could race it out without getting gobbled up by the pack. Now it becomes a 3 wide cluster f*** at the end with maybe a few car breakaway at the front. It was amazing to watch, but not the best actual racing. |

F1 should allow the drivers to fight each other and cuss and wreck other people on purpose...
Look the NASCAR ratings, it's clearly a successful formula!

I think it's a bit ignorant to think that is all NASCAR is about. It's also apples to oranges. Like comparing American football to Soccer. I wouldn't come in to an F1 thread with a drive by comment about how I feel about it. I respect it and still watch it occasionally even though it is not my thing.

Now I have to explain the satire... The fights get almost more views than the race, driver's have intentionally wrecked other drivers and the irreverence of it all gets massive ratings. F1's ratings are falling, pretty fast actually and NASCAR is a powerhouse, 2nd most popular sport on American TV behind NFL. Yeah they have a lot of reality-tv style drama and they don't penalize people like they should for bad behavior (Kyle Busch for example) but all in all, they do a damn fine job giving the audience what they want. If that audience wants to see driver slug it out occasionally or GWC's or the occasional intentional wreck then why not give the audience what they want? At the end of the day NASCAR delivers their entertainment to their audience better than F1, in fact I don't think F1 knows they are in the entertainment business at all as they can't seem to make a regulation change that doesn't further piss off their fans.
