BMW Advanced driver training on video.
York Region Police has posted 21 videos clips created by The BMW school which goes over everything from overall car balance and oversteer/understeer to how to adjust your seats and mirrors.
I would suggest this viewing for everyone. It's part of their ERASE Project against street racing and encouraging track time. Please watch the PSA as well. I've downloaded the videos, on case they ever get pulled down, so you can PM me for a .zip of them. Here's the link: http://www.yrp.ca/erase/Video.htm |

In reference to brake apportioning for ABS in understeer, I know our cars have electronic brake force distribution (EBD), is that the same thing?

If you wanna reduce street racing, open up some free tracks near the populated area. The kid with the civic can't afford your $400 track day for three 20 minute sessions.
But, i see this is Canada and is quite an aged program as well. Funny PSA, I'll have to check out the rest later, looks good.

What's a life worth to you? A buck fifty? Edit: They don't have to build a track, may rent one out. I've been to a few tracks inthe tri-state area, they aren't exactly in the greatest shape, so i doubt maintenance is much. Also i see a lot of volunteering when it comes to employees. Back in the hot rod days, the local police departments would rent out the drag strip and let the kids race and compete for free. Sounds like a great idea. Don't worry, your tax payer money will go towards something way more stupid either way.

So you either spend the higher price on the nice track or spend the lower cost and make up for it by having to replace your tires more often. I've got nothing against PD's renting out tracks or drag strips to have people come out. That sounds like an awesome idea to keep racing off the streets and build a community relationship, but the likelihood of that happening is pretty low in most areas. Regardless, free track days aren't all that likely to happen. Please don't take that as me being against them because I do think it's a great idea. I just don't see it as being very likely. |

Free tracks would not stop street racing!
If people are into street racing then they will race on the way to and the way back from the track anyway. Contrary to the F&F scenario the vast majority of street races are not semi organised events with loads of hot girls in short shorts but just two cars that come across each other on the street. The drivers probably don't even know each other.

Even if free track days did exist, street racing would still exist as well. There is no real solution to the current problem at hand. And the whole question on what life was worth was just me being a politician. Vote dem00n for moderator, 2015? Nah.

People will not stop street racing until it is seen as stupid and socially unacceptable, like drinking and driving or not wearing a seatbelt.
As track days become more popular, and clubs like these arrange cheap events, and street racing is publicly ridiculed by drivers and enthusiasts like us, things will improve. We need the next generation of gearheads, who are currently in their preteens lurking autotrader for their first car, to dream about hitting the autox, the circuits, the drag strips, and becoming respected in our community. They must not dream of imitating the first few FnF movies. Our disgust of that behavior on this forum and on all other automotive forums, at the track and at the red lights... That's what will stop street racing. |

People seem to think it started in the 90s but I am afraid that just isn't the fact. As soon as there were 2 cars on the road at the same time street racing started. Hell for that matter as soon as there were two domesticated horses street racing became a thing! It has always existed and always will I am afraid.

If spraying some little shitbox Honda or VW is a kick in the pants I bet a 400 cubic inch V8 took quite a few lives... On the affordable track front we're lucky here, $200-$400 gets you 5x 20 minute sessions on some world class tracks, the price seems to correlate to participant maturity and quality of instruction. Agreed that it is not available enough to the people that need it (I'd say advertising and accessibility, not affordability, having a riced out civic parked next to a new Porsche worth $200k after mawds may cause some tension), I know for me, on the way back from a long day running hard the last thing I want to do is zip between traffic. |
