There are tons of generic LED compatible flashers out there that are just meant to prevent hyperblink. That is just the start for Tapturn flasher... Does so much more.

The tap turn feature... Lol? You tap the turn indicator lever barely enough to not activate the turn and it will do three consecutive blinks. Nice to have for Lane changes. Definitely promotes you to use your blinkers more.

Install Tapturn

On my FRS to install my Tapturn I am trying to pull the cable out of the original flasher assembly with just one hand under the dashboard. I am having no luck and would like some guidance. I hope the image below (which uses the new Tapturn as a model of the original flasher assembly) explains my strategy.

(I wonder if my fingers are too weak to pull out the cable or am I just doing it incorrectly? )

I had the same trouble, couldn't get my hand and tools to the correct positions to pull the damn thing out. Tried for what seemed like hours.

Someone else had to do it for me. Pulled it out in 30 seconds.

Thanks for the feedback.
Are we talking about the same thing: did your friend pull out the whole flasher or just the cable that goes into the flasher? (I was trying just to pull out the cable.)
What tools?
Does pushing or pulling on the "lip" do anything? If so, which?

I could do absolutely nothing, so I managed in frustration to pull the stock flasher off the dash mount, hoping to be able to pull the cable with more angles to work from - no luck.

Contorted my huge body into every position imaginable including getting physically stuck and unable to extricate myself from the car, trying to put pressure to release 3 tabs - no luck.

My buddy, an inch or to shorter than me, reached under with 2 hands and had it out in seconds.

Seems I needed a prehensile penis as a third hand to insert the tiny screwdriver, but he didn't ! (years of mechanical experience?)

Maybe he had a prehensile d!ck.

I have now read more closely the installation instructions. Among the instructions are the following 2 regarding those that must be unplugged from a wiring harness, which is the direction I think that I am taking, if I read it correctly.

"(1) gently spread flasher socket side clips away from the plug [tip: inserting toothpicks will prevent clips from re-latching]"

In the image below, does the orientation (angle) and the position of the red arrow suggest how one of the toothpicks would be applied?

"(2) grasp the plug and use thumb to squeeze the tab on the side of the plug"

In the image below, does the orientation (angle) of the blue arrow suggest the direction of the "squeeze"? On the other hand, the position of the red arrow is pointing at the socket, not the unshown plug. Am I right in assuming that the little hole in the socket at which the red arrow is pointing has a piece of the plug in it to keep the plug secure and that the instructions are suggesting to squeeze the plug so that it is no longer jutting into the little hole. (Btw, this suggests that my previous idea of using the lip on the plug as a leverage point is irrelevant, too.) Right?

I am particularly curious about this because to me this position of the "squeeze" is not "on the side of the plug" but on the top or bottom of the plug. On the other hand, is "the tab on the side of the plug" something completely different?

Finally installed Tapturn in FRS

It has taken much too much time to understand how to install the unit. My previous couple of posts (replies) suggest some of the dead ends.

I finally just removed the plug from the original flasher, not the whole flasher, and replaced it with the tapturn.

The instructions that come with the tap turn mention squeezing the tab on the *side* of the plug after spreading the flasher socket side clips, perhaps using toothpicks. The spreading was unnecessary. The *side* was the top, and I was unable to squeeze it with any finger on my left hand -- btw, I am right-handed. Instead I used the tool in the image attached.

The final success came after viewing the video at the following link and stopping the video at about 1:39 to see a side view of the plug. I have also attached the image of that side view so you can better see what you are dealing with.

Chuck Norris would say grab flasher in one hand and remove car from it using the other hand...

Are these still being sold? I'm almost fully done my whole LED conversion on my vehicle and this relay would be a nice addition

They are. Right here: http://www3.telus.net/s_mcphee/orderTAP.html

I'm about to order one too, but it's been such a long time since they released an updated version that I'm afraid I'll buy one and they'll release a new one a week from now, lol.
