The sound is like a fluttering kind like leaves rustling. I haven't logged any data yet but after I re-tighten the bolts today I'll log it. Any word on the torque specs?

Just got done re-tightening the bolts....they were extremely loose. One was literally just hanging off the thread stud waiting to fall off.

I torqued the header bolts to 22 ft./lbs and did about 34 ft./lb for the header to overpipe connection.

The sound is gone and the smell is too...

My only concern is that is the bolts on the header ( the 3 on each side) come loose too easily with the given torque specs. I'll have to keep and eye and ear out to see if the sound changes again and also keep track of my logs.

^^ I don't think you should worry if you had yours installed by a pro. This was my first time installing a header. It wasn't difficult but I could tell right away something was wrong. The sound and smell was very apparent.

I installed the header last week and noticed the sound getting obvious on cold starts and every time i was on the gas pedal. I'm just really glad I took the time out today to inspect them. I think had I waited a few more days, the very loose bolt would have flown away.

Once I re-tightned to torque spec the sound was instantaneously changed and it sounded the way I expected. The way I see you shouldn't be hearing any type of strange fluttering sound on starts/accelerating from the front of the car.

On a positive note..the OFT+OFH has made the car seem much smoother. The power feels more linear and shifting through gears seems smoother too.

@Shiv@Openflash Hey sorry to bother you again but I emailed you my log last week and you haven't replied. I'm the one with the P2097 code.

Thanks for your time.

- Exhaust leak near O2 sensor
- Faulty O2 sensor

did this occurr after fitting ofh ?
did you use new gaskets

did 02 sensors screw in by hand ? then torque to correct level. if you forced them then it can strip threads or damage sensor

Tips for changing header

1. Always use new gaskets, if you re-use the old ones it will leak causing 02 sensors to read incorrectly
2. Run a thread tap or chaser (M18 x 1.5) through you new header 02 bungs to clean them up , 02 sensors should screw in by hand. If you force them they are easily damaged and the threads on 02 sensor easily stripped.

3. Put high temp anti-seize on header bolts and 02 sensor bung threads, DO NOT get any grease or anti-seize on sensor tips, once contaminated they are stuffed.

4. Leave the 02 sensors in the stock header until you remove it from car then remove sensors. Just disconnect the plugs an tethers on wires as per picture below.

5. Black plug to black socket, grey plug to grey socket. and remember to plug both back in.

6. Use correct torque for bolts and o2 sensors, re-torque after a heat cycle.

Hey thanks very much for your help but you already helped me a few months ago when I posted about this issue on the forums!

I have no leaks, because I had it smoke tested multiple times. Both O2 sensors already replaced, brand new gaskets replaced twice already (second time with thick Grimmspeed gaskets). I ran thread tap through O2 sensor holes, used anti-seize on O2 sensors, everything is perfectly installed, torqued perfectly, yet I still get the code (it goes on and off totally randomly but it's on more than off).

And yes, this happened after the install of the OFH. I never got it on stock tune or stage 1, everything was good. I already emailed the whole story to Shiv, he just hasn't replied back yet after I sent him the data log.

There was an issue in the beginning with the OFH's flange not being flat at the overpipe connection and that showed an obvious leak when smoke tested, but that's been fixed and I still have the code.

Out of curiosity, how did you fix the flange issue? I've been trying to fix an exhaust leak at the OP/header connection as well (JDL header/overpipe). Thanks!

Haha no problem. I'm guessing they probably lapped it using a belt sander or something like that.

This is more of a general header question, but since I have the OFT already, I figured maybe complement it with the OFH. So with the OFT, I notice a raspy metallic noise at 4k which I've read has something to do with the timing to get rid of the torque dip. Someone mentioned that getting a header can address this metallic noise. So for users who have both the OFT + OFH, does it get rid of it entirely or is it just minimized?

I am not sure I know exactly which noise you are talking about. But I can say with both oft/ofh all I can hear is bassy rumble and air induction on the inside.
