Take the insurance money and replace. If you are a picky person. You will not be happy with it no matter how good of work a body shop can provide.

I forgot to mention, of the two shops I spoke with today, the earliest either of them could schedule the car to be fixed is mid-October and it will take about 5 weeks to complete.

Repairs almost done...

Although it took a lot of angry calls from me, the persistence paid off. The insurance did replace the damaged headlight. According to the body shop, the insurance told them to just replace the lens, which is possible, but it costs more than buying a whole new assembly... which is about $980!

I dropped the car off for repairs on January 5th. I went and saw the car yesterday, Feb 5th, and was told it should be ready for me today. I took a quick picture with my cell phone.

While the car was apart I painted the insides of the headlights, which I might make a thread for. I'll post up a thread full of pictures I took with a Cannon DSLR during the repair process once I get the car back.

Not much, just in the roof rail area and quarter panels where the dents couldn't be pulled. All the other body panels were replaced.

Uh, no. 6 months for the body shop to have an opening, 5 weeks (see my previous post) to get it repaired.

Looking at the finalized invoice, the body shop added 9.5 hours labor over the standardized estimate times just for the special 10 series paint, which is a three stage.

Still 6 months until repaired.
Must be quite the shop for a wait like that.

Good shop, really bad storm, horrible estimates by the insurance. Within a week of the storm most body shops in the area were already booked for about 4 months. I had to have the insurance re-estimate the car because they under cut the estimate by more than 50%. In the two weeks it took for that to happen the wait time increased to the 6 months I got booked for. In past years other hail storms in a 2 hour radius have resulted in the mobile dent repair shops setting up their camp for 1.5 years because of how much work existed for them.

Damaging hail is rare here, but when it happens it really destroys things.
