What's your budget?

I'd suggest a 2JZ if you have money. If not, a panel filter will do.

OFT.

If you want something cheaper you can do bushings/inserts.

Just my opinion, make small improvements and feel the way your car incrementally gets better. Start with a drop-in filter, change your tranny/diff oil and add an exhaust. These are things you can do yourself very easily. Next, go for some nice wheels and coilovers. Pick up a few cosmetic things you like along the way. Still itching for more? Then you can go for an OFT tune or FI.

Simply drive it for a while. You will little by little notice things you might want to change either mechanical or asthetic in nature. In my case it didn't come with floor or boot mats so got those first. Then the little area where the heated seating controls live looked under done so got a plaque for that.

Mods are a personal thing so everyone will have their own view of what they would or did mod first.

Horsepower and grip don't mean shit if you can't maximize it.

Go to Circuit of the Americas, pass some old farts in Porsche's who are afraid to get their cars sideways with your four-banger.

OFT = OpenFlash Tablet. It will allow you to flash tunes, datalog and view data real-time. They run $500 new but you can often find members selling them for around $430 in the Classifieds section. They provide free OTS tunes for various car configurations and fuel types. Even the Stage 1 maps on a completely stock car improves drivability by increasing throttle response and smoothing out the power band.

There are a number of bushings/inserts that can be used to stiffen the car and reduce flex/slop in the transmission, differential, subframe, etc. They can usually be had from between $30-50 and can be done with hand tools.

I forgot to mention MTEC shift springs ($35) for a more positive gear engagement when going through the gears.

yeah an OFT on a stock car wakes it up a bit and improves intown drive ability. but first mods are so subjective based on ones budget or objectives. you can start with a handful of cosmetic items while getting accustomed to its nature & decide what you'd like to improve upon.

Do some good searching through this forum. Naturally, this question has been asked several times just really depends on what direction you want to take the car first. Personally, I think suspension is really rewarding, which is what I'm doing first. You can do power mods inside that budget and make some decent gains. Without going F/I you won't make big power of course and thats a bit above what you are looking to spend.

take a look through this thread What did you do to your BRZ Today? and get some ideas of what people have done.

If going suspension route I'd recommend (like he said above) some better pads at least. I bought rotors/pads/lines/fluid because after 1 track day it was clear the car needed better stopping power. Also there are a lot of spring sets out there that are real solid and very affordable. Wheels/tires are also popular because the stock tires are really not very great in the grip department ha

For power, I'm not as knowledgeable but the little reading that I've done looks like doing full exhaust, filter, e85 and tune can easily get around that 200whp mark which is fun in this car. I did a catback only at this time because the car is too quiet for me lol
