Gt wings. Witch work at what speeds.
If anyone has information on the gt wings available for the 86. Apart from this looks cool.
I'm looking for numbers, what wings will work at what speeds. Witch ones are adjustable. Technical things. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I don't think there's any proven or extensive tests for GT wings, specifically for the twins. Aerodynamic is a very tricky thing to test and it will vary greatly since the wing is also effected by other aero parts on the car. It's something like aerodynamic balance. I'd assume not every tuner have a wind tunnel to do control testing. All GT wings are pretty much function > form..

Simply put, all wings with a proper airfoil, start to work as soon as air passes over them, and the amount of downforce increase as a square function of the speed (general rule of thumb), ie 2X the speed nets you 4X the downforce. Airfoil shape, chord length, angle of attack, span twist, wicker height, endplate size/shape, pylon location and shape....lots of variables in wings. Most that you see in the catalogs for street cars, are a generic airfoil. Who knows how efficient they are, and the car they are tested on will change things too.
If you find numbers, they will probably be for a bare wing, not interacting with a car body. |

I have a full understanding of how they work. I find it hard to believe that with all of the companies producing things for the 86 specifically, that they don't have numbers for the car.

It's just one of those things that can not be tested for true numbers. Testing a GT wing on a completely stock 86 is, well, pointless.

It would be a waste of money and resources for the company. They'll sell the wings based on looks alone. The majority of customers would not base their purchase on actual downforce numbers...they'll pick the one they think looks best 99% of the time.

There are so many variables outside of just the wing to that have an effect too... changing the way the front bumper interacts with the air can have an effect on the efficiency of the rear wing; canards and splitters all have effects on the airflow over the car as well. Spoilers like the one on the griffon concept seem to focus more on stability rather than outright downforce which is difficult to put a number on but can be crucial for lap time. Although it may seem crappy, your best bet is to pick a spoiler that you like and customize its setup until you find whats right for your car....

Tunnel time, and CFD time, are not cheap. When I worked on the Viper GTLM program, the CFD team spent a couple months working on a wing just for Lemans, using a 96 core cluster. Not many small companies could afford something like that, and even then the wing was specific to one car, and one track. Generic airfoils, and pylons that allow for an adjustable angle of attack are about all you'll get.
