So then what's the difference between the R3000 base tune and R5000 "custom" tune that you're selling?

Due to kak advice from RMS Innovation blew my motor, so there is no chance I'd take anything from them. Now how do I trust a tune Phoenix supply if they are not tuning a 86/BRZ on there own dyno and creating a safe map. Our cars have a Maf sensor to correct for altitude so we don't need tunes for each province, just a extremely good safe one, which you load as you are. The argument we all trying to put forward, is do the test as you did in JHB with the same tune you are selling with awesome gains to the CapeTown guys. Stock car vs tuned car same mods, same dyno, same day. RMS are quoting R9k for a tune, which Phoeninx is a third of the price, so it's a no brainier, get ithe tune right and show accurate data and graphs, your tune will fly off the shelf. We have never picked up det on a base tune, however, each car is still checked for peace of mind. Call a base tune "overly safe" if you will. If there was any det picked up in a base tune...the tune would be adjusted for free. Custom tuning involves spending over a day (+-, depending) custom tuning, closer to the fuels threshold (eg 2-5%), for that SPECIFIC car, hence extracting every last kw/nm while keeping it safe. It also allows for the customer to be more specific with regards to their requirements, such as fuel economy over power, or power delivery, a specific octane fuel etc. Quote:

Cool, so you I'm sure you can understand that we're not convinced based on what we've seen here?
As suggested before, the best way to settle this would be to run GT86's car at FR, load the tune, drive around the block and run it again.

I don't swing left, or right, or any which way when it comes to dynos and all the posturing, but I respect (and tease) the folks who go for that - it's cool, but not for me.
So, this is a neutral comment - about the placebo effect, butt dynos, etc. Trust me, they are massively inaccurate. Here's an example. I was playing at Midvaal Raceway between Xmas and New Year. I rarely record my lap times (like I never dyno my car), but I did take some lap times on Saturday and I was consistantly running 1m21 to 1m22 in the hot afternoon, two up. My car really felt sluggish in the very hot conditions. The next day, on Sunday. There were two guys with superbikes up from the Free State and they had no clue how to get around Midvaal (which is quite a technical circuit) and they asked me for advice. So I took them each out for a spin to show them the lines. it was nice and cool that morning, and I was 100% sure that my car was much more powerful with the colder air. It just felt so much stronger than the day before in the mega heat. Sure, I probably had a bit less grip with cooler tyres, but I was convinced that overall I was much faster. When I got back home, I took the lap times off my in-car video. Three to four seconds slower than the day before, and I would have sworn that I was at least 2 secs faster. Don't trust your senses - they lie in synch with your emotions and tell you what you want to hear My tuppence worth...

Wise words Fish Eagle.
I also don't understand dyno queening, chasing numbers and all that but when it comes tunes & claims, especially on N/A motors where the gains are tiny, I need some proof. It's not even about the numbers only, when a claim is being made that the torque dip is "gone" but the dyno is showing it still being very obviously there, then eyebrows are being raised to defcon 3.
