Too lazy to look it up but in our Highway Traffic Act it is buried in a general statement that says something like "in the absence of any lane markings (intersections, railway crossings, unmarked and access roads, etc) the lane must be treated as a no passing zone". Which implies that if you are in that lane you are supposed to stay there.

Hate it when this happens about a mile ahead of me!
Heard it but didn't see it and was one of the few cars to get past before they closed the highway. Cruiser was about 3 cars back from me and hit the lights as soon as he heard the crash. I presume he blocked the highway as there were only a couple of cars behind me.

I learned the way back when in driving school at 16. For some reason the rule has stuck with me. Little else.

buddy of mine got a ticket for that back when we were about 16 when a guy pulled out in front of him as he approached an intersection. he swerved to avoid the guy and got a ticket because it happened at an intersection.

Similar events for myself. Seems a 16 year old can't get a break from the police.

Good one!
Guy in front of me this morning almost rear ended the guy in front of him when he slammed on his brakes in the passing lane because he saw a cop ahead. Doesn't help anyway because by the time you see them they could already have you tagged.
