Oh, but one problem I didn't think of. I have a mishomoto thermostat installed that definitely keeps my temps lower. Maybe that is not allowing the coolant temp to hit a proper level.

Thanks for your help.
Are you restarting the car first? You have to do it within 30 seconds to start up.

Yes. I turn the car off. Then restart and do the process well within 30secs.

I have tried it with radio on,off
I have tried with foot on clutch, and off

In short I have tried it in numerous combinations.

I was able to do it on my 12 BRZ. But I have never been able to do it on my 15. Now that being said. I didn't try till after I had a flash and thermostat installed.

I don't think the problem is the way I do the pedal dance. But obviously if you think I am doing something wrong please point it out.

Thanks to all for help.

My money's on the thermostat. The stock radiator is REALLY effective and I can't see the difference between "not quite yet" and "ok to dance" on the temp gauge. It's really tight.

Do you have a tune? If you have an altered startup sequence in your tune or a higher idle, that can prevent the pedal dance from working as well.

Yes sir. I have a UEL header and 91/E85 tune from Shiv at Vishnu/Openflash. Please let me know your thoughts, but obviously I need
to go ask Shiv about this as well since he was the tuner.

Shiv should know the circumstances under which the Pedal Dance doesn't work, but at the moment, if the other conditions like ECT are met, then it sounds like an issue with your particular tune.

I agree. I have actually never ran into a problem with any of Shivs tunes, whether it was on a BRZ or Miata.

Well, I am waiting to hear from Shiv. Do you think it could be a thermostat thing at all? My temp definitely runs cooler.

I've got an openflash and can verify that the dance works fine with 91 and 93 octane Stage 2 UEL tunes ('13 BRZ). Can't comment on the E85 tune though. I like where the thermostat idea is going. If it's 5 degrees cool then the dance will never work.

Do you have any logging tools? Torque Pro could tell you in five minutes if your temps are too low.

From experience, it doesn't take much cooling to get under the threshold. I could go autocross my car hard in 90+ degree weather, shut the car off in grid and in two minutes when I go to start it again, it's cooled off too much.

No I don't. Not for this car anyway. But with the OFT, it shouldn't be hard to get something and take a look at values. In fact I think the OFT may actually show the temps on the screen. But to be honest I have not dived into the OFT too much.

So, for the pedal dance to work, am I right in saying that you want your water temp to be above 190f before the car will allow it.

Thanks everyone. Next AX is Feb 8th...if the weather doesn't kill it.

A ELM327 from ebay for $10 and Torque will allow you to see your temps.

And a tune should not affect the pedal dance as the Engine ECU does not enable/disable TC/VSC. Different ECU.

OFT logging can show coolant temps.
