I'm not looking for huge numbers, I would be perfectly happy with 250whp amd the early tq it produces. I really dont plan on doing many bolt ons either so I dont see the need to go with say a rotex kit...

The Sprintex is actually just about right for a stock internal FA20. Bigger isn't always better.

Just about right for an absolute max of 300ish whp on E85 or 300ish crank hp on gasoline, imo. If you want much (any?) more you need a larger unit. And a larger intercooler.

I keep seeing the intercooler being questioned in regards to size...it isn't undersized. It is small, yes--compared to a bar/plate and tube/fin setup. But it is a laminova core that uses a much, much higher density of fins. This allows the compact fitment and yet support 400ish HP. There is a distinct advantage to having a smaller package here. The throttled volume is much lower. The cosworth setup will no doubt make great power, but the volume that the intercoolers take up appears to be very significant. The more volume, the slower the throttle response. I can't say whether it is something that you will definitely feel on this car as I haven't driven it, but there's definitely advantages to the smaller core. A larger heat exchanger in the front or a higher volume pump may help make the most of the smaller core. |

The main issue of the Sprintex IC is that the IAT's post cooler are up in the 60°C mark which is really hot - the Cosworth setup has published IAT's of less than 1/2 that...

And not sure what cosworth published, but you need to look at the delta and not the actual temp. If they managed to keep only a 15C increase with repeated pulls (half of kodename's log) then that I would be quite impressed. |

I don't think you can compare an in house test without the measurement methods outlined, to a real life test with multiple back to back runs. This one shows about a 10c increase in temp, but we don't know the boost, road vs dyno with massive fans, or a quick 1st gear pull on a cold motor vs a 4th gear pull.
