I haven't experienced brake fade at an autocross, but I have noticed that stock pads require a LOT of pressure to stop at the end of a run and even then they don't engage ABS.

hmmm

I just got a line on some carbotech discounts and wondering if I should get the "high-performance street" pad they got (the "1521 compound"), seeing as how people are saying that even the AX6 is a bit too much for stock on street tires.

I probably should replace my pad this summer anyway, maybe go down this route?

Haven't used the 1521 but they should definitely be more autocross friendly the AX6. AX6 also dust like nothing you've ever seen before and make freight train noises. But oh dear God, their roadcourse performance is beyond amazing.

If you don't mind, how much are the 1521s running you?

don't know exactly, I need to ask for exact quote, but it's going to be like 20% off the list price I believe. Not sure whether this is good or not?

But again I'd need to get in contact with this guy for a price confirmation. He run's an annual group buy on carbotech stuff here in Ontario, so I'm thinking of getting on board.

Just curious if theyd be cheaper than DS2500s. I love these, it'd be hard to switch if its not cheaper.

well, carbotech's site lists the 1521 as 139.00 F and 129.00 R.

I think that's cheaper than the ferrodo, right?

1521 used to be known as Bobcat. Tons of reviews on it, not sure there are many negative reviews on any platform. Fantastic street pad.

AX6 is VERY overkill for street use and autocross, though I'd not say it has too much bite. AX6 also dusts like a mofo... 10 miles of driving in slow suburban traffic and my wheels were black. Works very well on track (not sure it would hold up well enough on an 86, but it worked great on my GTI which was down ~30hp and ~350lbs)

I second all of this except I can say for sure that they worked with 0 fade on my BRZ with 215 RS3s and good fluid on repeated 20 minute Sebring stints in 100F ambient temps

Give us a shout if you are ordering carbotech's, likely the best price you will see. And you can support our racing habits one no-profit sale at a time. @Maximal

Just a point about this. I experienced zero fade during 20 minute sessions at a course nearby, on stock pads and tires. The fellow co-driving with me was getting fade after 15-ish minutes during his sessions in the same car on the same track on the same day.

Point is that just because one person does not experience fade, does not mean everyone will not experience it.

Interesting, I know Mike recommended going to XP10s or so. I have no experience with anything but stock pads on the 86 anyway, they were more than enough for autox

Terry is the man, got on Carbotech's case for me when they were taking ages to ship my pads with critical timing.

AX6 on AP Racing Sprint BBK were perfect for me for AX. Bobcats faded. This was on the LRP 0.5mi AX course (mini track) with few 20-30 minute runs, 3 hard braking sections, shaved 235/40-17 Toyo Proxes RA1. On AX courses with infrequent and short runs, both may be fine but AX6 has a noticeably better bite cold and hot. It's usually best to use appropriate equipment for specific application, in my case 1521 (Bobcats) for street, AX6 for AX and XP12 for track.

Changing the topic from brake pads just a bit, where did you guys buy your numbers for autocross? Since this will be my first full season I'm gonna order some magnetic numbers instead of using tape every time.
