My replacement still squeaks...

Been a while since I checked in this thread. Sad to see there hasn't been any solution yet (other than adding a solution to provide a temporary solution!)

My replacement lasted a whole month before the crickets returned. It squeaks even in the "freezing" winter here in CA (around 32F).

On the rare occasions they have popped up for me I could never hear them over my exhaust. The only places I could hear them at all was in a drive through (yeah Tim Horton's) or if I got out of the car while it was running. Other then those two things I could never hear it at all.

has anyone tried putting the lucas fuel injector cleaner in to fix this issue? it seems that if they dont change the actual fuel injector and just put the same one but newer back in, then the lucas could be a possible fix to the crickets? just a thought. anyone tried this?

I've got about 21k miles on my original fuel pump and still chirping. Every once in a while I'll get gas far away from where I typically fill up and it quiets down until I fill up locally again. But hey, who cares? Doesn't bother me at all. If it bothers you, go trade your 86 in for a lexus, you don't deserve this car.

Why is it wrong to be bothered by a noise that shouldn't be there in the first place? I don't care about it, but I can see why people want it fixed.

i agree..that noise shouldnt be there so why cant i be bothered by it? just curious if there is an easier fix than to go to the dealer and get it swapped out for a new one thats going to most likely do the same thing in 1000 miles..

who said the noise shouldn't be there? I acknowledge the fact that it bothers a fair amount of owners, but this chirping is nothing new under the sun- it's an unfortunate byproduct of the modern direct injection system. The resources and effort needed to develop a HPFP and supplemental acoustic attenuation and reduction parts has, obviously, not made it into the 86's manufacturing schema.

2-6db of noise reduction can be attained, but at what price? For what benefit?

If it's worth it to you, spend the money to get a custom HPFP system made. This isn't a design flaw, it was a conscious choice. Sooner you accept the crickets as your friends, the sooner you can get a little bit of your sanity back

(for those that have SD subscription from school or work, an awesome exposition, including trials and suggestions/solutions, of HPFP noise and how to reduce it)

I find this statement to be highly subjective--This was a new engine and injection setup, who knows what noises it should or should not make?

You're expecting your engine to make the same engine noises as every other car you have owned? Kind of ignorant, in my humble opinion. I wonder if you would be complaining about the ticking noises of the injectors if the pump didn't chirp.
