Q300TI or Perrin?
Update: I tried both on my car and prefer q300 (installed yesterday). Note that comments on the sound are always very subjective. I have Jackson Racing SC.
Old setup: P&L (4-1 catted header / overpipe / catted front pipe) + Perrin 2.5" resonated. This header opens up the flow, especially on high rpms and the two cats restrict it. Perrin can is round, smaller and lighter than Q300, it has a deeper, louder and more "mature" tone. I thought that the tone was very nice but it was always louder than I liked. Cold starts were pretty loud, didn't appreciate that. Shop had recommended it over Q300 even though I asked for the quietest muffler, with primarily street use and occasional track use. Perrin wasn't a better choice for me but it sounded great in its own right. New setup: Had a bad tune that fried the header cat element but left the front pipe cat seemingly intact. Replaced catted header return pipe with catless, replaced catted front pipe with new and replaced Perrin with a new Q300. Q300 is a good bit quieter even with less restriction. Cold start is much more pleasant (quieter). I can drive around on the street and if I am not above about 3k rpm and on heavy throttle, it's pretty quiet. When on throttle and above 3k rpm, sound opens up pretty quickly and progressively to redline. It's a very different sound from Perrin, higher pitch with just a hint of rasp when fully opened up, but not bad raspy and a very good sound IMO. More of a sound you would hear during a track day but not as loud. If you want to hear the exhaust from low rpms, doubt that q300 will make you happy. If you want a quieter exhaust on low RPMs and more sound on power, it should fit the bill if you like the tone (I do). Perrin sort of sounded like the car had bigger engine and more power. SC, header, cats and pipe diameter (2.5" vs 3") will affect the flow/sound. Q300 works out better for me but both are great choices. Last edited by dp1; 07-24-2014 at 11:17 AM. |

I don't believe either of them has drone issues and I didn't try TRD but q300 has the largest muffler and should be the quietest of the three. I don't know what it sounds like with stock headers/op/fp but it should be pretty quiet based on a YouTube video I saw a while back. |

I got Q300 because everything else was too loud for me.

LOL - now I need sound clips, in-cabin, 5th or 6th gear at about 3k, with a slight load, say 4% incline. j/k thanks all. Perrin is pretty quiet and so is the Q300. Sounds like the people who cared most about in cabin "quiet" all went with the Q300. I might end up doing the same.
Another guy said he just used his TRD muffler but got them to replace the "mid pipe" with a resonated piece. The mid pipe is NOT the front pipe, right? Can I buy just a mid pipe by itself? |

if i am reading correctly, Q300 cold start is more quiet than Perrin resonated (just catback mod only)? or is it subjective? does anyone has first hand of experience? I don't want to wake up the whole street when I started up my car.

do any of you guys recall a guy who had a custom mid-pipe fabricated for his TRD exhaust? I think he had a cat and a resonator put on the mid-pipe and he said he was very happy with his exhaust sound after that.
I've been trying to track down his post so I can find out what resonator and cat he used. |
