Production version ready next April
Scion To Sell Toyota FT-86 in 2012
Just the Facts: Toyota plans to sell the FT-86 as a Scion. U.S. dealers have been told the entry-level sports car will be priced from around $25,000. It may be marketed in 2012 under the name Scion FR-S. TORRANCE, California — Scion dealers were told this week that they will sell the Toyota FT-86 in the U.S., according to media reports quoting dealer sources. The production version of the car reportedly will be unveiled next April at the 2011 New York Auto Show and will be priced in the U.S. from around $25,000. It may be marketed in 2012 under the name Scion FR-S. The Subaru model may be sold only in Europe, while the Scion-badged FR-S is likely to be a U.S.-only model. Inside Line says: Can you say "Scionbaru" three times really fast? — Paul Lienert, Correspondent |

Don't really care about the badge, but since they increased the price by 25% it sure as hell better come well equipped otherwise it will fail.
Although not a direct competitor, the Miata starts at $23k and is a proven performer. Gen Coupe, Mustang, Camaro, Challenger all start below $25K. Granted none of these are in the exact same class as the FRS, but it’s hard to ignore their existence/price. Honestly, I think they are staring a tad too high; it should really start at around $22-23K which is enough separation from the tC's $19K price. Remember, Scion has fixed pricing so there will be no dealing down. I’ve seen 370z’s and RX-8’s go for $25K due to incentives and such so a base FRS at $25k isn’t exactly a bargain. |

Don't care about the badge that much, but it being made a scion dashes my hopes for it being any good, and makes me wonder about the future after this generation and other Toyota sports cars as well. They do remember that scion is still limited in it's availability in some parts of the US right?
They had better knock it out of the park, if it is a home run, I'll buy the scooby version, if it's anything less, I'll never buy another Toyota... (except maybe an LFA if the lotto gods one day decide to smile on me). |

why is everyone still stuck on the Toyota or Scion argument? I think the fact that a production version at the next New York Auto Show is more important. Hell us Americans haven't even gotten the chance to see it and maybe it being a Scion is the reason. The rest of the world has gotten to see it as a Toyota and they wouldn't want to show the car in the States as a Toyota just to sell it a year later as a Scion. Holy crap i just got on a rant about the damn Toyota Scion argument!

Scion to me is the cheap ass line of Toyota IMO, and why the hell have 2 sports cars in one line up that are ALMOST the same price! I hope this is just lame BS really. Toyota really has something here and I dont wana see them screw it up. I was never a toyota fan much until now and if they start screwin this thing up I know I wont be interrested and im sure many others here will think the same.

I'm in for the driving experience don't care if its a toyota or scion, i just hope it meets my expectations. price for me is good most of the car I test drove so far are around $40k & up so this is actually cheaper. only time will tell if this car will be a legend on the shadow of the great AE86, i just think if this will be a scion, the TC will loose a lot of buyer its almost same price range.
