I had two different sets of those in the past. The first set was quiet as a mouse and dusty. The second set was noisy and dusty. I never did figure out why the second set was noisy. I can handle the dust for a quiet pad that will hold up to track use.

I find especially on the long track I am not that hard on the brakes. After turn 3 I really don't use them that much until turn 10. On the long track they get a good chance to cool down as well.

I am figuring with more power I will be needing to brake more. I would love to get by with some brake cooling and good fluid/upgraded pads.

Pat
They do have brake cooling ducts available for the FRS i know that replace the foglights. Not sure about for a BRZ though.

I may have to try those. I had pretty good luck with carbotech before (different car, 2005 GTO). I did find that once I got into using the xp10's hard I had heat issues that boiled the fluid. In the end I ended up going with a big brake kit and cooling later.

How are those for noise on the street? I always had noise issues with the xp 10's

Do you know Todd from Tracktime Motorsports?

Pat
I had Carbotech XP10's on my '99 BMW M3 for over 2 years (year round –winter and summer – road and track). They produced a fair amount of noise in some conditions, and did dust a fair amount, but they were worth it for me. I would buy a set for my FR-S right now if it was within my budget. I am harder on brakes than others have mentioned, I doubt I could get more than 3 days on the long or short track at BIR with the front set. Also, I prefer the same compound on all corners.

I ran CL Brakes RC6 pads with AP Racing Super 600 Brake Fluid two years ago at Brainerd on the short track in my FR-S. EPIC braking from this setup (with 225/45R17 BF Goodrich Rivals). On this track setup, I need to brake hard at almost every corner from #3 to the end. No fluid boiling, no fade. Still I am going to try to go back to Carbotech next time I save enough for another big track outing because the CL RC6 was more difficult to modulate than the last time I use the Carbotech (but that was on my BMW M3). The CL RC6 pads also ate the rotors quickly, something the Carbotechs do not usually do.

It's a blast to drive especially with all the snow. You lose a little in cornering but gain that in torque and AWD. BRZ is fun and nimble, but WRX is more practical as an everyday driver. If I didn't live in this state, I'd probably stick to an FR car for daily driving.

Nice! I hear ya. I just traded my FRS in for a 2015 Impreza Sport. And my wife is thinking about trading in her Camry from the 2015 WRX. I drove one last weekend and really enjoyed it. I think we might pull the trigger

Pretty sure the STI is cheaper to insure than the WRX. I think I would have gone that route if the 2015 STI used the newer FA motors. You'd end up paying more for the WRX over time.

Soon the sti will use an FA but the FA in the new wrx is only direct injected. Not direct and port injected like the frs/brz correct?

Correct. Wonder if it'll have carbon build up issues similar to the Audi and Lexus direct injection only engines.

That's interesting. But I prefer the FA20 over the EJ any day. I see too many of them come through the shop with issues. Plus, I would rather pay the 27k price of the WRX than almost 40k for the STI. But thanks for the heads up
