It adds up fast once you get into aftermarket parts. I am almost at 2/3 the cost of the BRZ new in parts, so about $20k on top of the original car. In the first year.

Got bored, already tried to sell it multiple times. Probably gonna keep it for many years now since I boosted it.

Next car will be more radical for sure, or another Miata.

The supercharged Miata I owned this summer at the same time as my BRZ was way more fun, when it was actually running right. The BRZ is also way more fun boosted than it used to be. I really want another convertible next time.

Here's a link to everything I have been through with my car documented.

Realtor stopped by in his late model Carrera when I was washing my car, so he could check out the house next door which was on sale at the time.

"Damn.... Nice car, leave it out when I show this house so they can see what their neighbor drives."

And I was like

"... k lol"

Chilling at a red light. a guy in a dodge 1500 next to me honks and rolls down his window. while giving me the thumbs up
him - " holy shit man, that car is nice. What is it? "
me - Subaru BRZ.
him A subaru? well it must have a really big engine"
me - Not really , it's only 200 horse power.
Him - Well it's fucking sweet man.

I rolled up the window, light turns green and i speed off with a big grin on my face.

Got my first car inspection today, and the guys at the shop were all so amazed by my car. I thought it was pretty funny.

There's this street that most people from both the middle and high school have to pass by eachother in order to drive home. I just love it when the kids have their nose scrunched on the window looking at my car.

Took my car into the local dealership for a look at some rodent issue I had...just to make sure there was no damage and three guys walked me to the car and continued to check it over...never had customer service like that before!

Brz and other cars like this do have a higher perceived value because they are so limited in their practicality. It's a $25,000 toy, not a $25,000 appliance that everyone has to have. It evokes feelings of a time when one had no responsibilities which required a real car or of possessing enough wealth to own such an expensive toy.

You make a good point, but people seem to equate "toy" with "exotic, expensive sports car."

They aren't really that limited in practicality though. Where there's a will there's a way.

I was told the shop guys like working on BRZs because they get sick of doing Forester oil changes for 8 hours a day.
