FRS in the Snow..
So I just tried taking my FRS in the snow this morning to get to work. Its about 1.5" here. On my way it was bumper to bumper traffic most of the time, and it got stuck at a traffic light on a hill; it just kept spinning tires so I let to let it drift to the median. Then I took a back road and the back end started sliding out going up another hill. Will some good winter tires and sandbags make a difference? I won't do that again with stock tires, it was extremely nerve wracking...

You NEED winter tires. Mine is great in the snow with a set of blizzacks! The only time I have trouble is getting the car moving from on a hill, which I just avoid. Too light for traction. But the winter tires make a huge difference. Please invest in a set. Save yourself and others a nasty wreck.

Ya you won't do much on the stock tires in the snow!
Here are a couple of threads that can help: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75306 http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24037

Drove my BRZ to work this morning.
Heated seats, snow mode and blizzaks...no worries.

Winter tires are a must if you plan on driving with any sort of snow on the ground. You could get through winter on stocks if you only drive when the ground is free of ice/snow, but otherwise invest in at least some decent winter tires.
Last winter (when I was driving my T4R) I saw a E90 335i (not xi) get stuck on a rather slight hill, that is on my normal commute to work. Today in my FR-S, equipped with Blizzak WS80s, I conquered that hill in stop-n-go traffic with no trouble at all.

Winter tires will help. After 3 winters, I have decided that the car actually does better without sandbags in the trunk. I chose the Bridgestone Blizzak WS-80 this year for my Minnesota location. Here is the thread I started to try to sort out my options:

I resurrected the sand bag thread so that you can decide which way to go.
The majority say no.

I run General Altimax Artics, fairly cheap tire and they have been great for the past season and the one snow day we've had this season.

Also if you're planning to drive through any real snow accumulation (more than 1"), all-seasons will not cut it. Go with winter tires.

I put Dunlop wintermaxx tires on my car on sunday. Today was the first time we got snow, and the car handled totally fine. My commute is from a Philly suburb to right off 202 in Delaware. Our work parking lot was empty and had about an inch, and it seemed like the car was really unwilling to break the tires loose. So all in all, I'd say they're quite grippy. It seemed more unwilling to break than the stock primacy tires when on normal pavement.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! Are winter tires good to drive on for the whole winter season even if it only snows 3-4 times? Or is it best only to use them in the snow?
