so just to be sure, if i set up my FR-S like this...

am i going to get reported/banned/"hated"/etc?
my old S14 while i was stationed in japan.
still had another inch of threads on the coilovers to go lower, but it sat just right on 225 stretched on a 9.5 up front and 235 stretched on a 10.5 out back. i never checked the exact camber but the rear was around 3.5 deg. and front was maybe 4 deg.
it drifted just fine on numerous outings to local tracks of japan. never once did i go street drifting (much to the flipping out of ziptied members who insisted i was lame for not breaking laws in a country i was a guest in, and did not want to violate SOFA status as active duty service member).

seriously, this is how i am going to set up my FR-S, like it or not. although probably not staggered wheels. but the overall "stance" of the car - the true meaning of the word as in "that car has a nice stance/it sits very nice" will be about the same with a bit of poke and camber, some stretch but nothing over the top.
i like certain elements of a nice fitting set of wheels and a dialed suspension with a PURPOSE. you can look good and drive like a bat out of hell on tracks and have a DAMN good time doing it. thats how i roll and if you dont like it thats fine with me.

oh and somebody said something about coilovers and not corner balancing... that corolla in my sig is sitting on powered by max coilovers... and yes its been corner balanced.

I think a primary difference is what I have highlighted above. You do it with a purpose. Half of these guys/girls (hyperbole) that are doing stance/hellaflush are doing it for the look and the extreme camber, without any desire to do any competition other than those "Scrape" contests. A couple pages back someone posted an article showing how careless these owners are with their cars as well, and the damage they are doing to them all in the pursuit of looking cool.

Also, that is a beautiful s14. A little camber looks good. A lot of camber is pointless.

That was bad in my opinion. He seems like a very capable driver on a bad setup. It looks like the driver was fighting the car more than the course. But "onicamber is cool yo!"

All the posts of "oni-camber" are from Japan. The Japanese do some off the wall stuff with their cars. I lived there for 6 years, saw it all. Stance, flush, hellaflush are not oni-camber. Oni-camber is in a class all it's own.

Some of you don't seem to realize that.

Stance only works if you still give the car shit.

If you're running a wheel setup to just drive between photoshoots, then you're a poser.

I would propose that the majority of people who "stance" their cars are not "Giving them shit," but are doing it for the look.

people that use "stance" as a verb make me cringe.

cool wheel fitment is nice, though. I think what a lot of people don't get, including a lot of people that have jumped on the "stance" bandwagon, is that a lot of the stuff isn't an end in and of it's self, it's just a means to get to something else.

what I mean by that is, people stretch tires because there's a practical limit to how wide of tires you can run underneath your fenders if you're at a cool ride height. the reason why people run a 215/40 on their 17x9.5+15 front wheels when they're slammed is because anything wider or taller and they'd rub, and the stretch is because a 17x9.5 wheel subjectively looks better than a 17x7.5 up front, even though they only really "need" 7.5" of wheel to fit that tire.

The people that buy 195 tires instead of 215 or 225 just for the sake of having stretch on their 8" are scenesters and totally missing the point (unless we're talking about a miata or something where 195's are reasonable), and the people that look at cars like @ill roller 's and say LOOKS NICE MAN BUT I WISH YOU HAD GONE WITH 315'S ON THOSE 9.5 WIDE WHEELS, I LIKE MEATY TIRES are missing the point entirely too because they're so completely out of touch with how tire and wheel fitment and ride height actually works.

by the same token, camber is just kind of something that happens when you're trying to make wide wheels and a low static ride height work, at least if you actually like being able to turn and not rub everywhere. even a lot of those oni-camber cars in japan, they're running like a 12" wide wheel with absurd offset, and it's on a big body sedan so I feel like they get a pass. last year's fad in america of CAMBERGANG where people started slotting their coilovers on their STi's for no apparent reason is kind of lame IMHO.

but hey, that's just my opinion.
